After departing Whitehaven Beach we made our way around to Butterfly Bay. After a brief stop we continued on to Airlie Beach for a few days. It was then time head south, but very undecided on where to stop on the way. Overnight stops were Long Island, Shaw Island and St. Bees Island. We sail deeper into northern Norway, timing a tidal gate, navigating narrow fairways, refuelling in a shallow harbour, anchoring in a wild bay, and finally entering the spectacular Trollfjord by sailboat. In this episode of Sailing Polaris, we leave early in the morning to catch the current through one of the few tidal gates on our route. With up to three knots of tide helping us along, we follow a narrow and shifting fairway used by larger vessels, where the charted depths may not always match reality. After arriving in Lødingen, we manoeuvre Polaris, our 46ft Bavaria sailing yacht, into a small and shallow harbour to refuel. What looks tight and questionable on the charts turns out to be manageable in calm conditions, although the diesel price is another matter. From there, we continue towards a remote anchorage among skerries, rocks and northern wildlife. The next morning brings a calm and protected anchorage, a scenic route through narrow channels, and a perfect weather window for a long-awaited bucket-list destination: Trollfjord. With flat seas, blue sky, snow-covered mountains, falling-rock warnings and an eagle overhead, Trollfjord feels both beautiful and severe. But northern Norway still sets the limits. Deep spring snow and avalanche risk force Catherine to turn back from planned hikes, leaving us with unfinished business in this dramatic Arctic landscape. 10 June 2014 was the opening day of the international Bali and Beyond Travel Fair held at the Convention Center in Nusa Dua, the newest area of tourism development on Bali. As media participants, we were invited to tour the venue and visit the booths from all over Indonesia. From Borobudur to Papaua, the many facets of Indonesia were represented, all attempting to draw those in the tourist trade to encourage visitors from their country to come. That evening, we were invited to an al fresco hosted buffet, first of a myriad of appetisers and drinks, then a buffet of typical Indonesian spicy specialties. The most impressive part was the fabulous entertainment: first, an elaborate Balinese dance with dazzling costumes and headdresses bedecking the dancers who ressembled annimated dolls with bobbing heads and gygrating eyes, Then a very unusual and unique musical instrument, made of palm leaves, and finishing with a dance from Tana Toraja of South Sulawesi. We thank the organizers of the "Bali and Beyond" Travel Fair, and all those who appeared in this film.

With our 2 and 9 year old grandkids moving aboard the boat, we had a need to carve out a good bed location for the 2 year old. This is a blog about how we went about doing that including running new outlets as well. See the video about how we did it, as well as the before and after shots.
