For a few days we sailed to Kekova. On board my former colleague Jens and his Turkish wife Şeyma, who is working as a marine biologist. We expected to see some turtles in the sea but the spectacle we got was way more interesting. A huge seal was hunting - and finally eating - a stingray right beside our boat. It's very rare you see the monk seals in the Med because they are threatened with extinction. Für ein paar Tage waren mein ehemaliger Kollege Jens und seine türkische Frau Şeyma an Bord. Şeyma ist promovierte Meeresbiologin und so hofften wir auf ein paar Meeresschildkröten. Stattdessen bot sich uns ein ganz anderes Spektakel. Direkt neben unserem Boot tauchte plötzlich eine der vom Aussterben bedrohten Mittelmeer-Mönchsrobben auf, die einen Stachelrochen als Abendessen auserkoren hatte. Minutenlang konnten wir dem Kampf zusehen. Spoiler: Am Ende hat der Rochen der Robbe sehr gemundet.

Storm sailing tactics are best reviewed and decided well before needed in earnest. Once deployed, a drogue anchor can exert several thousand pounds of force on a boat’s mooring cleats. I suspect if attached to only one cleat, it would be ripped out. I therefore had to configure a solution that would distribute the load to multiple cleats. In this video, we explore the three cleat option.
