Mais les orages qui tournent autour de moi me font réfléchir à deux fois avant de rester au mouillage de l’avant-port de Mazara. Les fonds ne sont pas sûrs pour affronter un orage, donc je suis parti en quête d’un bon ancrage. Finalement, c’est en mer que j’ai décidé de prendre l’orage et j’ai trouvé un bon mouillage avant la traversée vers Pantelleria. Nick Voss has climbed up the ranks of Snipe sailing quickly over the past few years. At Annapolis he won a place on next year's Snipe Worlds in Denmark. He finished in 8th place at the Snipe Worlds in San Diego last year. When Nick talks about what it takes to make a Snipe go fast, people listen to what he's saying. One of the hallmarks of Snipe sailing in the US is that the leaders in the fleet spend a huge amount of time and energy working with all the competitors to make them go faster. Nick's got quite a bit to say about why collegiate sailors should think about a Snipe when they graduate -- both the price of getting and campaigning a boat and the quality of the racing that's available make the Snipe a compelling choice. Of course Nick comes from a strong Snipe background. His parents won the Wells division at this year's Nationals.

As the 2013 season draws to a close the world of Olympic sailing is kicking into high gear. 2013, a post Olympic year, was a relatively quiet one, but going forward teams know that only a full push can results in the gold medal they all covet. Alan Norregaard, Bronze medalist in the 49er in London, used 2013 to start a new partnership in the 49er with Anders Thomsen. Together, they placed 2nd in the 2012 European championship, placed top 10 in every event they entered including a 6th at the worlds, though surprisingly didn't win an event. What do they plan for 2014, you'll have to listen to Alan to find out.

We end up staying about a week at the first lock on the Caloosahatchee River, tied to a set of pilings called dolphins, at the Franklin Lock. Once the rainy weather clears we decide to go on an exploration by dinghy. We saw on Google Maps there was a creek called Telegraph Creek, that goes a couple miles in a very secluded area. Now that we are in mainly fresh water, we are trying to find an alligator! The views were amazing!
