The Transat Café L’or is one of the biggest events in world offshore sailing, especially in France, and this year there are 74 yachts with 148 skippers taking part in four classes: The Class 40 monohulls, the OCEAN50 trimarans, the IMOCA monohull yachts, which we know well from the Vendee Globe, and the mighty Ultim trimarans, which are capable of covering over 900 nautical miles in a day. The race starts from Le Havre in the Normandy region, before rounding a mark off Étretat, then heading out of the English Channel and into the Atlantic where the classes have a selection of courses, depending on their speed. The finish is in Fort-de-France, Martinique as the race traditionally follows the historic coffee trading route between France and Brazil. The race will take between 10 and 16 days, depending as always on weather conditions, with the Ultim course 6,200 nautical miles, the Ocean50 4,600 nautical miles, the IMOCA course 4,350 nautical miles, and the Class40 course at 3,750 nautical miles. The biggest talking point pre-race has been the weather and an approaching system in the Atlantic which is set to hit the fleet. The Ocean Fifty class and all its skippers requested to advance their start to Saturday which the race organisers agreed to, and the fleet of 50 foot trimarans started at 16:30 hours on Saturday 25th October. They are sailing down to the Canary Islands, leaving the entire archipelago to starboard. They will then head to Cape Verde, the original course marker, which they will leave to starboard. A waypoint could also be set to correspond to the planned race time of around twelve days. The Ultim, IMOCA and Class 40 fleets started as scheduled on Sunday. You can track the fleet at https://www.transatcafelor.org/en/cartography Thumbnail photo (c) Jean-Marie Liot / Alea #imoca #ultim #class40 #ocean50 #sailing

What are the key tips for a smooth return to the dock? ⚓🚤Maurizio Bulleri shows us step by step on the Absolute 56 Fly. Before docking: place fenders with a proper knot, notify the marina, and give way to boats leaving if conditions allow. Move slowly – precision is everything. 🛥️With a modern joystick, docking becomes effortless. Start by securing stern lines, then the bow line. If it’s windy, add crossed stern lines for extra control. Before leaving: disconnect unnecessary utilities, close all hatches and windows, plug in the shore power cable, and don’t forget the gangway remote! ✅ How do you make docking easier on your yacht? Share your tips below! 👇 @mauriziobulleri @absolute.yachts .#AbsoluteYachts #Absolute56Fly #YachtLife #BoatingTips #DockingMadeEasy #SafeBoating #JoystickControl #LuxuryYacht #Seamanship #YachtingLifestyle #SmoothSailing #OnBoardWithMaurizio #BoatingExperience #YachtTutorial #MarineEducation

Checking out my new project boat to take me further offshore.
We sailed out and hit some unexpected wind. Ended up in a fresh breeze, if not a near gale. It was fun, but we were over powered even with the working jib, so we decided to sail back and reevaluate. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "SBS ep.121 - Sailing Back from Catalina and a Postmortem" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPxhSgXk8sM -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-
Wheeling on the day that Anja turned 50. A normal person would have a party and a big 'Sarah doll' in the front yard. But because we don't have a front yard, and we were far away from any family or friends that might have come to the party, we drove up a vulcano :-) 50 years on a vulcano of 5000 meters. An amazing example of what a custom sail looks like compared to a cookie cutter sail designed by someone in a manufacturing loft overseas. This is our look at the Lego Roller Coaster (10261) which retails for £299 in the UK and $379 in the USA. It's an absolutely huge set, at more than 3 standard baseplates wide and a 1.5 baseplates deep - you're going to need some serious space to put this thing on display. See how it fits together and see how well it runs after we motorised it by watching our video. If you liked it, subscribe!
