Celeste Pomerantz wasn't a sailor until she signed up for a sail & ski trip out of Tromsø, Norway, that was headed north in search of un-skied peaks in Svalbard. The boat was called SOFIE, and was owned and skippered by friend of 59º North, Mats Grimsaeth. I discovered Celeste in the ski film Wavy 2 about the adventure and immediately reached out to her. After 6 months in a Marina doing upgrades and fixing broken parts on our boat we purchased, we can finally take off on our First Passage. We are doing the passage in 3 parts. Ft Pierce to West Palm Beach in this FIrst one. We are working our way towards the Florida Keys. This was a great first passage for us other than not enough wind to sail. We did get a great show by dolphins, and had some rain squalls to deal with. But now that we are out on the water we will be exploring from here on out. Join us as we continue to sail our Catamaran, our home, De Coco, along the Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia. We hike up Yardie Creek Gorge, Dive with 2 Leopard Sharks and continue to live off what we catch which in the case is plenty of Spangled Emperor!! We are a couple from WA who have moved on board our Yacht in search of adventure, fishing, diving and surfing while living from what the ocean provides and having a bloody great time along the way. In this episode I take you on board our family boat "Rogue" our 1964 Columbia 5.5 Meter. The footage is from one of our Wednesday night races in the Oakland Yacht Clubs Sweet 16 Series. We currently have 9 active boats in our fleet. The racing area is on the Oakland Estuary which is a stretch of water between the island of Alameda and the coast of Oakland and it connects to the San Francisco Bay. The race goes around both inflatable marks and permanent navigation marks. I have had the boat for almost 9 years now and my boys have been part of the crew since the beginning. They started out hanging out down below and sticking their heads up every once in a while to see how things were going while I raced with a rotating crew of friends. Eventually they spent more time up on deck and now have taken over all crewing duties. I have never forced them to come sailing and always check in to see if they are having fun. During the summer we race the boat every Wednesday night and in the winter we race almost every Sunday. They are always eager to go sailing and to hang with me, I know it might not last so Im just going to soak it all in. After checking into Kota Kinabalu, we dive into a few unforgettable adventures — white water rafting through jungle rapids, witnessing incredible fireflies illuminate the riverbanks at night, and soaring high above the coastline while parasailing. It’s the perfect send-off before Emma heads home. We then sail to Dalit Bay, carefully navigating a shallow sandbar in a strong tidal river before anchoring securely. But the drama isn’t over. Another boat fails to negotiate the powerful current and drifts straight into us while we’re at anchor, slamming into our bow and causing damage. We’re forced to carry out temporary repairs to keep No Regrets II strong and watertight.
