Wir besuchen die drei Talkessel Salazie, Mafate und Cilaos, fahren über die Straße der 500 Kurven und stoppen in Saint-Gilles, Saint-Pierre und Hell-Bourg. Discover Nudibranch Rock. It's easy to see why this site is called Nudibranch Rock (I could not use the short name for nudibranchs. As you can imagine, YouTube didn't like that very much) . Just look at the profile of the island. Luckily there are also nudibranchs to be found under water. This dive site is very diverse and marine life can be found everywhere. In the deep water there are often barracudas or Bump-head Parrot fish. Sometimes even big stingrays in the sand. In the more shallow water, there are of course all the beautiful soft coral and all the marine life that make these areas their home. This video was entirely recorded on a GoPro Hero 7 Black. Join me as I revisit Temple #23 after 21 years and then cruise the coastline to the SE most tip of Shikoku following the pilgrims way. Shikoku is the smallest of Japan`s four main islands. Standing like a gargantuan breakwater off western Honshu, the island looks as if someone gripped a ball of dough, forming two bulges at either end. It is divided down the middle, east to west, by a mountain range. Pilgrims have come to Shikoku for centuries to take on the famous 88-temple pilgrimage. The purists do it by foot taking the best part of four months while others can do it in three days by coach or car. Kukai ( AD 774 – 835) a Buddhist monk, and a son of a Shikoku made the pilgrimage famous, He is now known by the post-humous name, Kobo Daishi. He travelled to China in AD 805, searching for enlightenment then returned to Japan three years later to found the Shingon Sect. 21 years ago, I cycled in a counter-clockwise direction, opposite that of the myriad of pilgrims I met, most of whom were clad in white. with Covid the pilgrims are sparse Of all the islands I have cycled on that epic ride 21 years ago, I was never more conscious of the sea as I was in Shikoku. Now I am seeing her mesmerising coastline from a sailboat. A webinar-style presentation hosted by The American Schooner Association & The Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race This past summer, after a several-week maintenance period in Annapolis, Andy sailed 59º North's Farr 65 FALKEN on the so-called 'Viking Route' from the Chesapeake to Iceland, via the spectacular Prins Christian Sund fjord system in southern Greenland. Andy will share details about the voyage, including the preparation of both boat and crew, how it compared to our passage to Spitsbergen in 2018, sailing amongst fog & ice in Greenland, the stupendous fjord system in the Prins Christian Sund, and the final stormy 800-miles across Denmark Strait to 66º North in Iceland.
