After waiting for the tides to be timed better in the day, we return to Raft Point in preparation for the trip to Montgomery Reef. Heading off just before sunrise we catch the start of the outgoing tide and witness the amazing spectacle of the world's largest inshore reef being transformed by some of the biggest tidal changes on Earth. In an amazing spectacle, the coral reef appears to rise from the ocean in a torrent of cascading water creating hundreds of miniature waterfalls. We’re Chris and Jo and we have been living on our Seawind 1260 since January 2019. In our first year we bring our yacht down the east coast of Australia and sail it out to New Caledonia. After cruising further north up the east coast of Australia in 2020, we decide to circumnavigate Australia during 2021 and 2022. We had previously owned fishing and water skiing boats, but after a couple years crewing in South Australia we decided to jump right in and make a sea change. We are just an ordinary Aussies couple exploring what this great world has to offer and hope that we can inspire others just as we were by watching other YouTube channels to follow our dreams. #seawind1260 #kimberleys #circumnavigationaustralia #seawindcats #montgomeryreef #drone

Stay balanced, be strong - Thor
The MC52 might be the smallest multihull in the McConaghy range, but this cat is no kitten. The MC52 not only benefits from McConaghy’s vast experience building performance boats but also from a carefully considered use of carbon, that sees her precise hull forms achieve an optimum strength to weight ratio. As with all McConaghy Multihulls, the MC52 has dual helm positions on the flybridge, allowing for the greatest sight lines forward as well as an elevated position that aids more difficult in-port manoeuvres – making her an ideal choice for those new to multihull cruising. There are two accommodation layouts to choose from; a four-cabin layout (all en suite) or a three-cabin layout, which allows for a large master suite, complete with private study, in the starboard hull. The wide saloon offers a versatile and spacious living area that, with large windows running the full length of the hulls and fully retractable glass doors to aft, is exceptionally light and provides fantastic views. The galley is arranged open-plan to this area, which creates an apartment-like feel and is particularly well suited to socialising and family living. The MC52’s interior styling comes from m2atelier, an international studio with a wide range of architectural and interior design projects in residential, fashion retail and yacht design and deals with product design for important clients in the furniture design industry.
In a world where everyone is connected, it seems appropriate to discuss world events that affect us all. I am in no way a geopolitical expert- I am just a guy that goes sailing. I seek only to discuss information and facts I am receiving through my own social media ‘ corporate media feeds and welcome your thoughts and opinions.
As part of our 2014 Up-Island Sailing Adventure in the CARIBBEAN, we sailed in with 'Sophisticated Lady' for a visit in Wallilabou Bay in St Vincent... home to the original movie sets for many of the scenes in the first PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movie! This week we're answering the critical question: what happens if you crash the boat? This is a rare but extremely serious situation and can have dire consequences if the boat is not built with collisions in mind. Seawind manager Mike takes us through the crash bulkheads and how they're made to prevent water ingress, and the Seawind 1370's watertight compartments, and we have a chance to chat to Seawind owners Mark and Isobel from s/v Jollydogs who happened to collide with an underwater object in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and had their entire starboard bow ripped off. And yes, they sailed over 1000 miles to safety. Thanks for watching! Ron Epstein hails from San Francisco and has been cruising and racing on The Bay for some time. In deciding to take a next step into more serious racing he commissioned the building of his new JPK 11.80 Bacchanal by Innovations Composites in Australia. The timing of the build, with the yacht completed in October this year, meant that he could also realise his ambition to sail in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. Ron will be racing to Hobart with a mixed crew of Australians and some of his regular crew from the US. He explains how the project came about and also demonstrates a couple of features on the boat that will make shorthanded sailing with his wife back home on The Bay a little easier.

Why the opening show of the season was so cool. As always the RYA Dinghy and Watersports show was buzzing with boats, banter and bargains but this year also marked a big change with the move to its new venue in Farnborough. And after the lost year of 2021 it was especially good to be back. Among the long list of fascinating exhibits I discovered: - How reducing the aero drag on a foiling Moth allows the latest generation to clock up 18knots upwind and just 30+ knots downwind - What a Moth and an America's Cup AC75 have in common - The case for the fully electric RIB (want one) - How a 60+ year old boat can beat the carbon hot shots in its own class (want one) - Why America’s Cup crew Freddie Carr admitted to’ Geeking out in his anorak’ - How an exciting skiff class has reinvented itself (want one) …and lots more 1:20 Adam May explains the latest foiling Moth 6:22 The featherlight International Canoe 7:41 Three very different Merlins 11:32 Freddie Carr...and what he's got his eye on 15:44 The case for the fully electric RIB - RS Pulse 6.3 20:06 Big bangs, small bucks, why the 4000 could fit your wallet www.planetsail.co.uk
