Here we are again, in the middle of the ocean, trying to fix stuff! The inner shroud began to fail, the wind instrument packed up, and the engine decided to increase the amount of oil it was leaking. This is a normal part of sailing. When you sail offshore, you expect gear to fail. Whilst it can really lower the morale of the boat, it also provides you with an opportunity to learn. You learn about yourself and what you are capable of doing in a new situation. Is there a way to overcome this problem? How do you get the crew and boat safely to port? In this episode, we finally solve the mystery behind the boat engine’s screaming alarm—a worn-out fan belt! After a quick replacement, the engine runs smoothly again, allowing us to move from the marina to a nearby anchorage while waiting for our new roller furler to arrive. Despite the rainy weather, we managed to install the roller furler without major issues, a critical upgrade before our next ocean passage. We also cleared out of French Polynesia—surprisingly easy, and we later learned we could’ve done it online!
