Italian friends, a five-star hotel in Marbella, and a very out-of-place suitcase — the fun starts before we even get back to the boat. Then it's heads-down into the catamaran's electrical system to install dual-color LED bulbs that flip from white to red for night navigation with a simple on-off-on trick (turns out the instructions matter after all). We also tackle the Furuno chartplotter mount that's been bugging Max for weeks — cutting a teak panel to cleanly frame the unit at the helm, so it's properly sealed, secured, and actually looks like it belongs there. Jigsaw, oscillating saw (RIP — missing in action), and one very stubborn screw later, it's finally done right. Inför min bok Ta rodret, kvinna! tog jag kontakt med olika båtmekaniker, och frågade dem vad som är de vanligaste motorproblemen som båtägare råkar ut för. Svaret överraskade mig: ”Det är väldigt sällan problem med dieselmotorer om du gör regelbunden service på dem”. Om du använder båten som fritidsbåt, är det lagom att göra denna service varje år. Det är den servicen jag beskriver i denna serie. Del 1 beskriver flödet av diesel, olja och kylvatten genom motorn. Del 2 förklarar i detalj hur du byter bränslefiltren och luftar motorn. Del 3 berättar om det yttre och inre systemet med kylvatten, filter och byte av impeller. Del 4 handlar om oljebyte och oljefilter. Skaffa dig en bra handbok över din motor. Om du inte redan har en, kan du troligast skriva ut en från nätet. Sök efter motorbeteckningen, den hittar du på en liten skylt någonstans på motorn. Du behöver veta motortypen för att köpa rätt filter mm. Ibland finns två olika handböcker. Magical Misool, Mythical Misool, Misool Madness, whatever way you put it Misool is a pretty special place. Tied bow and stern to jagged cliffs with unblemished coral surrounding us we were certainly in paradise. Totally alone too! Each morning we would dive off the boat naked into this crystal clear water and start our days wondering if we were still in a dream. Ripping around in the dinghy we found an old ladder up a cliff so we followed the path and were led to an amazing small hidden lake. Swimming in there with just the bird song as background music we had a truly special experience. Enjoi!
