These guys come around often for a little hand out. I'm thinking I should name them. Lately there have been many Canadian Geese, their goslings and Mallard ducklings too! :)

With a tidal sand bar crossing approach to Ayamonte in Rgdolls future, we worked until early afternoon, then set off on the afternoon tide to cross inbound the Rio Guadiana sand bar for Ayamonte. Leaving the Faro Entrance was sporty as heck! Fortunately there wasn’t much swell, but the incoming mid tide was fierce enough to drop Ragdolls forward speed down to about 1kt… she should have been doing 7.5kts at those RPMs! Sometimes you just need to take the hit at one end so that the other end is good. Once out of the tidal bash, the Log Impeller needed clearing. A little bit of plant material had jammed it - Chris gives a demo of this often feared operation, showing that with the right technique, it can be done underway. On the way we had a great sail, enjoying the good conditions for making progress. As we approached the Guadiana entrance, the conditions were freshening and the entrance channel was a bit lumpy… never fun watching the depth gauge going down while bouncing around! Nonetheless we got through the shallow part without fuss, and once behind the training wall we enjoyed the moment - the Rio Guadiana on the border between Portugal and Spain is a classic cruisers right of passage, representing the completion of the transit of Portugal, and the beginning of either winter storage, or onwards through Spain. Generations of cruisers have wintered in the sheltered Rio Guadiana, which is navigable upstream for many many miles. With the marina on the Portugal side non responsive, we raised the Spanish courtesy flag and headed into Ayamonte on the Spanish side. Here we figured out that the warnings in the guides were on point! A river runs through the marina. Couple that with an opposing 15kts of wind, and the very tight quarters of our assigned marina berth, we really struggled to put Ragdoll where she needed to be. It took 4 attempts and a lot of throttle to overcome the conditions and put ourselves alongside. With a bit of patience and letting our model of the conditions develop with successive attempts, the final manoeuvre went well, and we were alongside in Ayamonte! The weather while in Ayamonte was not amazing - Scottish rain without the freezing would be the best way to describe it. The doggies enjoyed going walks along the shore of the river. Nonetheless, we are enjoying being back in Spain! Enjoy our content? Don’t be a stranger! Who are we? We are a family of three with three dogs - Chris, Daria & Jasper. We have two Golden Retrievers and a Bernese Mountain Dog – Hachi, Luna and Meems who sail with us. Sailing with dogs has its challenges, but we would not have it any other way. We have been sailing the coasts of Scotland for the last few years, enjoying each and every Scottish island, nook and cranny. In spring of 2023 we have moved aboard Ragdoll and left Scotland for the warmer climates of the Mediterranean. There is no set route or plan. We will go where the wind and life take us. We sail on a 1995 Gib’Sea 472 which has undergone a huge refit over the last couple of years. We made her our own and now… we’re off on an adventure! Connect with us! Bonus points for this project, it was not on the list as a must do before we leave the dock in a few weeks. Since we had time to spare and some items to use on board, might as well keep plugging away... Andy does his magic in getting the new knee wall installed and a shelf made for the step up converter on the washer. New Sails! And, considering the wind is our fuel and the Sails are our main engine…this really is a huge upgrade that will mean easier handling and better performance. WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste. Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity Timestamps if you like to Jump Around: 00:00 Big Upgrades 01:28 Why We're At a Marina 02:40 We Need Professional Help 03:28 Remove the Mainsail & Stackpack 04:31 Installing the Mainsail & Stackpack 06:18 Wake up & Say Informed 07:54 Raising the Mainsail 09:49 A New Life for the Old Main 11:21 Day 2 Tramps, Genoa & Reefing 11:52 Removing the Genoa Sail 13:14 Bigger Main & a 3rd Reef 14:50 Installing New Trampolines 16:22 Installing the Genoa Sail 19:09 Sundowner Reflections ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #BoatLife #Catamaran #TravelVlog #DigitalNomad #LifeStyle #Sailboats © Gone With the Wynns 2022

MISCHIEF is one of the fortunate survivors of the beautiful West Solent One Design Class included in a 1990s wave of restoration and revival. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/756/MISCHIEF The West Solent was the sports boat of its day; probably the first in the UK to be series built. Perhaps the most successful and elegant inshore waters racer/ cruiser ever to grace UK waters, they look equally as good at rest as at play. 31 boats were built by Berthon Boat Company for UK clients between 1923 and 1933, with fleets developing at Lymington, Torbay, and on the east coast. MISCHIEF has sailed there, and much further afield including cruising Europe's western seaboard to the Mediterranean in the 1980s. She has undoubtedly benefited from having just one loving owner since 1991; very well set up for short handed cruising and occasional racing. There is something very romantic about a boat that looks like this and a long ownership; he sails her often, and normally on his own.
Boat life rescue in shark bay -Sailing Western Australia Ep 143 This week we survive a night rocking and rolling in an exposed anchorage then on our arrival in Denham, Rob and fellow yachtie Bradley just happened to be passing an old fishing vessel where they notice a trapped wild seabird, a cormorant, caught up in the netting on the boats bow. They jumped aboard and managed to free the poor bird. Unfortunately Rob got a slight wound for his troubles when the frightened bird lashed out with his pointed beak. It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #TheCruisingKiwis
I finally am getting this thing together!
Sept.
