This video covers one of the main reasons for our voyage North to America. It shows our haul-out at Bennett Brothers Yachts, footage of the Coppercoat process, what my family did while off the boat, work and trips we took to the boat while she was on the hard and finally, I have some clips showcasing Britican going back into the water. A big of background...we spent over a month sailing from the US Virgin Islands north to Wilmington, North Carolina. The reason for heading north was mainly due to insurance and safety reasons. Our insurance provider requested that the boat was out of the hurricane zone between the months July through to November. Considering I have family in North Carolina, we decided to sail to Wilmington, have Britican hauled out so that we could have some necessary work down while we stayed in the comfort of my parents and brother's house. The work we had completed included a full rigging check with some repairs, new anodes for the bottom of the boat, getting one of our alternators fixed, some minor engine repairs, our bow thruster fixed, a new VHF radio installed, and the main work was getting a Coppercoat antifoul treatment applied to the bottom of the boat. Antifoul is needed to keep barnacles and other marine growth from growing. Any growth on the bottom of a boat and drastically slow the boat down. Considering that sailboats are slow to begin with, most sailors work hard to prevent growth. Normal antifoul treatments last around a year or two whereas Coppercoat should last 8 to 10 years. It’s very expensive but, in theory, a boat owner should save money in antifoul costs, labor, and haul out charges over the long run. Please give us a thumbs up and subscribe to our channel. We didn't expect to adore the Galápagos' most touristy island, but we did! We explored the town of Puerto Ayora, walked some of the most incredible stretches of beach we've ever seen, marveled at the marine iguanas, trekked through a lava tunnel, saw giant tortoises in action (literally and figuratively) in the wild, and scuba'd with sea lions and sharks. This Bavaria 40 Cruiser is a later model offering twin wheels and a large electrically operated drop down boarding platform giving walk through cockpit access from the dock.
