This episode sees us continuing to put our boat back together after 7 months in Jolly Harbour boatyard in Antigua. I did a ton of research to find the most reliable but simplest autopilot that I could for our hydraulic steering system on our 1973 trawler. Raymarine and Garmin were nice but too much money for features we did not need. We wanted something that we could simply set a compass heading and the pilot would keep the boat on that heading. Two brands looked good. Comnav and Si-Tex. We went with Si-Tex SP-70 and could not be happier. This pilot steers the boat straighter than we can by hand especially in swell. We traveled the entire Atlantic ICW from Norfolk to Miami aboard our trusty Endeavour 32 sailboat the S/V Sandflea! ...but now... we're stuck in Miami. Turns out that these winter "Northers" are no joke. Persistent, strong winds for days and days on end keeps us pinned down for over a week. So, what do we do? Well, we edit video, we homeschool, and we prepare for the upcoming Gulf Stream crossing... even though we're not entirely sure when that will be. The four guest staterooms are below deck with a large foyer accentuated by blue granite topped cabinetry. There is also a dayhead on this level. Up one more level is the sun deck where there is a helm plus 3 captains chairs forward, built in side seating, an oversized sun pad with plenty of back cushions centrally positioned and a bbq grill.
