The Sail Sangihe Yacht Rally 2014 included a stop at Morotai Island. Here we were greeted by officials as honored guests. A special traditional dance brandishing swords is done when strangers arrive. They established that we were friendly and so took us into their care, as represented by the couple receiving flower necklaces and getting feet anointed. The Secretary toasted us with Indonesian beer! The highlight of our Morotai visit was a boat trip to Rao Island off the west coast of Morotai, where we visited a tidy, friendly village, smelled “Kopi” (Coffee) Rock, and walked to 2 waterfalls. The last evening we had a farewell dinner and thanked and were thanked by the friendly, and enthusiastic Tourism Team, who became very close to us and found it very hard to say goodbye. We especially want to thank Arfian who worked so diligently, and tirelessly to keep us informed and to grant all the yachtie’s demands. He was a Champion! Filmed in September 2014.

This was our second visit, thus “another” glimpse, at the town of Tobelo and surrounds. We found our friend, Yus, at Tourism, again. He helped organize for us a dive tour off 2 of the nearby islets and another tour with a walk to beautiful Sapoli twin waterfalls, and a delicious picnic lunch at water’s edge. Later that day, we also drove to an overlook to see Lake Duma-Galeta, one of many freshwater lakes on Halmahera Island. Thanks to Yus, we were invited to the opening ceremony and VIP dinner given by the Regent, for the Festival of Gemstones, a week-long fair featuring the semi-precious gemstones found around Halmehara Island. We would like to thank the Regent of North Halmehara for inviting us to the dinner, and especially to Yus, who organized the tours and helped us with translations and other services during our visit. Highlights video of the 2015 Australian Youth Championships in Fremantle, WA (6-10 January 2015) & were hosted by Fremantle Sailing Club in conjunction with Yachting Australia. The 2015 Australian Youth Championships saw 175 U19 sailors from six states and two territories compete in six boat classes (420, 29er, Hobie 16, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Bic Techno 293) for the National title honours. In addition, four sailors from Japan as well as 12 from New Zealand and one Hong Kong crew are contesting the Championships. Host Western Australia had the biggest contingent at the start line with 94 sailors, followed by New South Wales (54) and Victoria (38). The 2015 Australian Sailing Youth Championships together with the National Class Championships as well as the 2015 Queensland Youth Week in July count as a selection event for the 2015 ISAF Youth World Championships to be held in Malaysia in December 2015. Vlog #21! In this episode we show you what a typical day in the life traveling the ICW (or "the trench" as we like to call it) on a sailboat is like. Long days traveling trying to escape the cold as we push further distances each day. Here is a very mellow example of what a typical day is like, much more unexpected hectic days followed this, mostly because of our deep draft (5' 7") and an occasional shallow spot in the channel. Also covered are some beginner tips on what to expect on these stretches of the ICW for those interested to see what it's like.
