We take a look at the rest of Tally Ho’s history, and then I travel to Bristol to meet John R-B, who builds replica Bristol Channel Pilot Cutters in the Underfall Yard, and who first took me on as an apprentice when I first started doing wooden boat work. He tells us a little about the history of Pilot Cutters, and talks about why yacht designers return again and again to their classic lines. Finally, I travel back to the US and take a long road-trip from Boston down to south Georgia, to visit Cross Sawmill, where a huge amount of Southern Live Oak (Quercus Virginiana) is being milled for me, to be used as framing stock on Tally Ho back in Washington State. We opted for “Don’t Rock Passage” for a little calmer conditions over Whale Cay Channel because we can make it with our 3’8” draft, or so we thought. We def tapped sand a bit with the rudders... Episode 18 Ricky & Moses frame and complete the aft cabins cabinetry, as well as complete the saloon seating areas cabinetry as well. We did this for more storage space as well as to give the seating area a more rounded look. Ricky glues and epoxies it all together. I was pretty darn impressed when I got back from Pretoria. Ricky then dropped me off at the airport. I share my awesome trip to Pretoria with you guys for my Ouma's 80th birthday celebration! Ricky, Jerry and Moses do some more laminating, and we measure up the Nida core counter tops and aft cabin beds to cut out our nidacore laminated sheets. It was a daunting task and took forever as there were so many curves to our counter tops the measurements had to be accurate. Stay tuned till next week when we go on a cool safari trip!
