Now that we have identified the places where we had termite damage in the roof, it is now time to repair it. That means cutting big holes in the roof. This weeks episode shows how we cut those holes as well as the fascinating process of removing very well bedded wooden hardware such as mast steps and hatch frames. The idea with my Bavaria 32 is to test what it costs to own it over a number of years. When I know that I'll sell my Bav 32 and buy a bigger boat. The new boat must not be over 4 meters in the beam to assure I can get a cheap boat spot, also not so big that I can't remove the mast myself with a small crane. The boat must also not be to heavy wich means it must be under 10 Tons in weight. To accomplish these things the boat must not exceed 42 foot.

Another overnight offshore passage in the books. It seems every passage we do ends up being around 80-120nm total, which means a portion needs to be at night. Luckily we both enjoy night sailing and can never get over the stars we see along the way. This time we rode out the back edge of a cold front that allowed us to cruise downwind averaging 6.5kts with just our headsail. We arrived safely to Marco Island after 18hrs of sailing and an hour of motoring to prepare for our next leg of the journey. Here we’ll be provisioning, doing yearly engine maintenance, finishing the cockpit teak and going aloft to fix a spreader – all within a week. Oh, and we’ll be filling out the paperwork required to enter our first international port! Hope you all are as excited as we are to finally enjoy the fruits of our labor. She's particularly beautiful when flipped over... the gentle curves of her bare bottom up in the air. I approach her slowly. Then, at the height of anticipation... I slap on a coat of paint. Yep. It's time to paint the hull of the dinghy. I painted on 4 coats. Boy, it sure does look great now! The trouble is that I think it may looks too perfect. I really do dread putting it in the water and having it get all scratched, scuffed, and stained. Ah well - that'll just add character, right? I also put on a dozen pad eyes around the boat for general utility... then I take em all off and drill big 1" holes in the gunnels instead. Also, a malfunction in my magical snapping powers causes a scantly clad Tambi to appear in her signature red bikini. Sorry about that. Thanks for watching!!
