We're back in Whangarei after spending three weeks on land! I (chris) had an amazing time on land and I'm itching to get back on the water. But before that happens we've got work to do..... We plan to sail to Tonga in May and there is a LOT to get done to prepare for the trip. This episode is the first in a series about what it takes to sail a boat and a family 1200 miles across the Pacific. The core of "Family Circus" is Chris (Dad / Captain), Sayo (Mom / Admiral), Aya (First Officer / Deckhand) and Miya (Baby / Stainless Polisher). After many years in business in Vancouver we were tired of life inside the box and wanted to make a change, we just weren't exactly sure what would be next. In July of 2016, when Sayo was six months pregnant, we decided (somewhat at the last minute) to fly to New Caledonia for one last holiday before the baby was born. The 6 boats currently racing have rounded Cape Horn. Here are their reports. MAPFRE finally succomed to mast track damage and after they rounded Cape Horn the Mainsail tore badly. Es ging durch Riffpassagen und einen Kanal, um im Governor's Creek ankern zu können. Da musste einfach alles funktionieren. It is leaking again by the bollard in starbord side, but this time the water is running into the boat by the two screws that keeps the deck together. The simplest trick is to mount some butyl sealant to the screws at the head to keep the water outside the boat. In a other video I have covered the tree screw holes by the bollard with Tec7 and tape, this seems to be watertight.
