Episode 41 - Preparing to Sail across an Ocean (Sailing Family Circus)

We're back in Whangarei after spending three weeks on land! I (chris) had an amazing time on land and I'm itching to get back on the water. But before that happens we've got work to do..... We plan to sail to Tonga in May and there is a LOT to get done to prepare for the trip. This episode is the first in a series about what it takes to sail a boat and a family 1200 miles across the Pacific. The core of "Family Circus" is Chris (Dad / Captain), Sayo (Mom / Admiral), Aya (First Officer / Deckhand) and Miya (Baby / Stainless Polisher). After many years in business in Vancouver we were tired of life inside the box and wanted to make a change, we just weren't exactly sure what would be next. In July of 2016, when Sayo was six months pregnant, we decided (somewhat at the last minute) to fly to New Caledonia for one last holiday before the baby was born.
