This is Episode 35 of our adventure. This week we give you an updated tour of our 50' sailboat as of June 2022. We have been in the water for a little over a month and are trying to balance family life whilst continuing with the boat refurb. We have resigned ourselves to the fact we won't be ready to cross the Atlantic this year so we have plans for a 10 week sabbatical. In this video we update you of our plans and show you around the boat as it is now. We are a family of five with plans for an epic adventure, sailing around the world. Gemeinsam erleben wir die Antigua Sailing Week und segeln selbst von Antigua nach Barbuda. ▬ Über diesen Film ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Nach dem 24-h-Aufenthalt in der North Sound Marina habe ich die ursprüngliche Natur um Great Bird Island umso mehr genossen und einen Schnorchelausflug nachgeholt. Es war zwar bedeckt und das für Unterwasseraufnahmen so wichtige Sonnenlicht fehlte, dennoch fand ich eine unberührte Welt aus Weich- und Hartkorallen mit einer Vielzahl diverser Fischarten. In der 1. Maiwoche findet mit 85 Teilnehmerbooten die 53. Antigua Sailing Week 2022 statt. Wir sind deswegen nicht angereist, sind dem aber auch nicht aus dem Weg gegangen. Wir ankern im Faulham Harbour und fiebern mit. Jeden Tag findet um 17:00 Uhr im Antigua Yacht Club die Preisverleihung des jeweiligen Renntages statt. Das Tagesergebnis ist erfolgversprechend, die Hoffnung auf einen finalen Podiumsplatz steigt. Von Jolly Harbour im Westen von Antigua nehmen wir Kurs auf Barbuda – 30 Meilen Richtung Norden. Wir kalkulieren 6 Stunden Segeln, kommen aber bereits nach 5 Stunden an, da der Halbe Wind mit 18-25 kn TWS uns zunächst unter Vollbesegelung dann im 1. Reff des Grosssegels zügig vorankommen lässt. 6 manchmal 7 Knoten Fahrt, das ist für MariaNoa ganz schön schnell. Auf Barbuda leben nur wenige Menschen – Barbuda steht für endlos lange Strände und ebenso lange Spaziergänge. Der Sand ist Schneeweiß und fein wie Puderzucker. Wir wollen gemeinsam um die Welt segeln. Dafür haben wir uns einen Katamaran gekauft, mit dem wir Anfang März von der französischen Atlantikküste auf die Barfußroute gestartet sind. Seit vielen Jahren war eine Weltumsegelung mein (Hannes) großer Traum, den ich berufsbedingt zum Renteneintrittsalter verwirklichen wollte. Manchmal kommt das Leben aber anders als man plant. Im Frühjahr dieses Jahrs erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Auf unserer Reise wollen wir nicht nur in Traumbuchten chillen sondern Programmländer von Plan besuchen und die dortige Arbeit dokumentieren. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Her design brief was to incorporate a large open layout onto a 54-foot platform that featured both a forward sailing cockpit as well and a combined/convertible salon and aft cockpit. Her sailing cockpit has dual doors and a pivoting helm that allows for 3 different door and sailing configurations. This is a safe and secure sail handling area optimised for single-handing with all sail controls in one location and includes an electric line driver to control the mainsheet traveler. The R5 achieves 200 miles per day without generating high loads. She covers distances effortlessly, but can also be dialed up to reward sailors with an exhilarating ride when required. Einhand von Guadeloupe nach Antigua. Brigitta ist in Deutschland und ich setze die Reise fort. Die Überfahrt von Guadeloupe nach Antigua war seglerisch unbefriedigend. ▬ Über diesen Film ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Im erste Drittel musste ich motoren, da der Wind einfach zu schwach war, um MariaNoa ausreichend durch die Wellen zu ziehen. Dann frischte der Wind auf, drehte allerdings gleichzeitig gegen Nord sodass ungefähr nach einem zweiten Drittel klar wurde, dass der Kurs auf English Harbour niemals zu halten sein wird. Da ich gleichzeitig ein ungeduldiger Mensch bin, habe ich die Segel eingeholt und das letzte Drittel leider wieder motort. Von Süden also von Guadeloupe kommend liegt einem auf Antigua English Harbour direkt vor der Nase. Die tief eingeschnittene Bucht beginnt mit der Freeman Bay, wo auch ich geankert habe. Diese ist berüchtigt für ihre drehenden Winde. Unter MariaNoa kreisten beängstigend Schwärme von großen Raubfischen. An einem Steg vor den historischen Gebäuden von Nelsons Dockyard reihen sich die Megayachten. Eine für die Karibik überraschende britisch distinguierte Stimmung, andererseits endlich einmal wieder etwas Kultur. Hier wird geputzt und gewienert aber eben nicht gesegelt. Wohl das Schicksal vieler Traumyachten. Anfang Mai ist Sailing Week. Ich hoffe alle diese Yachten dann in Aktion wiederzusehen. Der gesamte Nordosten von Antigua ist von Korallenriffen geprägt und insofern ausgesprochen flach. Passagen sind exakt zu beachten, sonst gibt es ein großes Problem. Hinter den Korallenriffen und diversen kleinen Inseln liegt man mit Blick aufs offene Meer zwar windig aber ohne Schwell. Habt Ihr konkrete Fragen? Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. The 45m/148' yacht for charter CURIOSITY is a testimonial of the yachting golden era.
