In der Eagle Beach gibt es guten Ankergrund aber auch viele Jetskis, die uns als Wendepunkt auserkoren haben. In der Arashi Beach ist der Meeresgrund Korallen hart und der Anker gräbt sich nicht ein. Dafür gibt es viel zu schnorcheln – Korallen, Fischschwärme und einige Wracks z.B. der deutsche Frachter Antilla der sich bei Ausbruch des 2. Weltkrieges plötzlich in feindlichen Gewässern wieder fand und selbst versenkte. Wir entscheiden uns unseren Besuch auf Aruba abzubrechen und nach Santa Marta Kolumbien aufzubrechen. Das Wetterfenster ist günstig. In den kommenden Tagen sind Flauten und eine aus dem zentralen Atlantik kommende Depression angekündigt. Also jetzt oder erstmal nicht. Wir fahren zum berühmten Customspier und dürfen nachdem alle Unterlagen bei Immigration fertiggestellt sind, auf die Frage, wann wir abreisen werden, lernen, dass man in Aruba nicht wie sonst binnen 24 h sondern unmittelbar das Land verlassen müsse. Das ist unmöglich. Also brechen wir den Ausklarierungsprozess ab, fahren zurück zur Surf Side Beach, um am nächsten Morgen erneut bei Customs und Immigration vorstellig zu werden. Im Frühjahr 2020 erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Mai 2022: wir segeln eine Bavaria 40 Cruiser aus 2008 Design J&J zur Probe Prebuy im Ionischen Meer. Roomtour ab: 4:10 Eigentlich wollten wir erst 2023 mit der Schiffs-Suche beginnen. Aber wegen eines Skiunfalles hatte ich Anfang Januar 2022 viel Zeit und stöberte das ganz Internet nach dieser Bavaria 40 durch. Auf einer etwas "abgelegenen" Seite fand ich sie dann und rief "spaßeshalber" am 18. Januar 2022 den österreichischen Verkäufer an. Was als einfach Informationsbeschaffung über diesen Schiffstyp begann, entwickelte sich dann innerhalb weniger Tage zum echten Kaufwunsch. Leider war das Schiff bis September 2022 noch im Charter und etliche rechtliche Fragen bezüglich der Nachversteuerung und Deregistrierung noch nicht geklärt. Dafür entschieden wir uns zu dem Probetörn Ende Mai und hatten zu dem Zeitpunkt bereits einen Vorvertrag mit Übergabe 1.10.22 vereinbart. This Bruce Farr designed vessel was built in the Waquiez yard in Lille, France. Her single owner commissioned the project, upgrading the structure and systems from the beginning. She has spent her life cruising to the Islands each winter and back to the US for professional service and care. Suzie Too has had constant upgrades to maintain her superlative cruise-ready state. Turkey is a very big country as you know and takes hours in a car just to move from A to B. We are considering to rent a car but the driving skills of the people here in Turkey are leaving us very discouraged. As the taxis are very cheap, we are moving by taxi but 2/3 hours is a bit far go go by taxi so we are trying to find the best way to do it. We might have to get the Ferry to Kos, in Greece to see some and then another Ferry to Rhodes and back to Turkey via Marmaris where it looks that are some more boats for sale around there. So we go through our plans on how we are going to afford to buy this boat that we want, the Lagoon 450 Flybridge or another major brand around 45f long. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Lugger sailing is different. The sail is attached to the mast only by the yard which carries it aloft. The front bottom corner (the tack) is hooked to a forward part of the boat and the sheet which controls it all is attached to the back corner (the clew). And that's it. A modern sail can press a boat down, but a lugsail lifts her as it drives. The replica of a 100-year old lugger - and the historic lifeboat - in this video live in a museum in west Wales. Fiona wirkt sich auf Curacao so aus, dass nahezu windstille Tage herrschen, die ich nutze, um wieder einmal ins Rigg zu gehen. Inzwischen habe ich meinen Spaß daran. Diesmal gibt es zwei Jobs zu erledigen. Erstens muss wieder einmal die Führungsschiene der Mastrutscher gefettet werden. Und zweitens will ich eine Umlenkrolle im Masttop befestigen, durch die eine Sorgeleine geführt werden soll, mit der bei Bedarf eine Kette aus Landesflaggen der Länder gehisst werden, die wir inzwischen besucht haben. Die Kette ist inzwischen so lang, dass die Dirk kaum ausreicht. Sobald die normalen Winde aus Osten wieder hergestellt sind, wollen wir nach Aruba weiterziehen. Dort erwarten wir erneut Besuch. Um bei Immigration und Custom auszuklarieren, machen wir uns auf den weiten Weg per Dingy, Bus und einem mühsamen Spaziergang. Busfahren auf Curacao ist spottbillig. Wir bezahlen pro Strecke und pro Person zwei Antillen Gulden. Das entspricht ungefähr einem Euro. Bon Dia. Papiamentu ist mit Abstand die meistgesprochene Sprache auf Curaçao. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. BORKUMRIFF IV, built by Royal Huisman in the Netherlands in 2002, bears the exterior profile of a classic schooner, a look that will make every sailor’s heart beat a little faster. She was delivered by a shipyard that is widely regarded as one of the greatest for large luxury sailing yachts. Built for worldwide cruising, this fast and seaworthy yacht embodies the golden age of yachting. She has only ever been used privately and has been maintained to the highest standards. Reminiscent of the Newfoundland schooners used to hunt huge cod off the coast of north America, the yacht measures 50.58 metres in length (including her bowsprit) and has a sail area of 1,164 square metres across her two masts. Commissioned by an experienced owner who united a shipyard and design team that represent some of the most important names in classic sailing yachts, she boasts exterior lines coming from the design office of American schooner specialist, John G. Alde. Her naval architecture was managed by Dutch design house, Dykstra, whose award--winning modern replicas are icons of the sailing superyacht fleet.  The interior was designed by John Munford and features custom furniture and wood panelling in highly polished mahogany, contrasting with the light-coloured ceilings and floors in a way that is pleasing to the eye, makes a nod to tradition, and ensures sufficient brightness. The interior layout features a saloon and interior dining space on the main deck, and the accommodation on the lower deck.  The full-beam master suite is to aft and benefits from a separate study, and there are two guest cabins (configured as twins) midship.  All the accommodation is en suite.  There’s separate accommodation for the crew in generously proportioned cabins, and a sizeable ship’s galley.
