Der heute freigelegte Teil der Stadt liegt zwischen 900 und 1200 m ü. NN. Für mich war diese Wanderung nach dem Marathon die bisher größte physische Herausforderung meines Lebens. Da meine Wanderschuhe nicht passten, musste ich den größten Teil unter immensen Schmerzen zurücklegen. Ich rate jedem nur bei ordentlicher Kondition und mit Schuhzeug in dieses Abenteuer zu starten, dass verlässlich angenehm und bequem, aber auch trittsicher ist. Es regnet täglich, wie es in den Tropen üblich ist, wie aus Kübeln. Was einmal nass ist, trocknet auf dieser Wanderung nicht mehr. Dies gilt insbesondere für Socken und Schuhe. Moskitos sind überall und zerstechen alle Hautflächen, die nicht abgedeckt sind. Moskitospray gehört zur Grundausstattung. Die Lager sind einfach um nicht zu sagen primitiv. Kate was a junior sailor in Opti's and 420's while Curtis went cruising in the Great Lakes with his family. We met while sailing in a Melges 24 regatta and have been sailing together ever since. The first time we went cruising together as a couple was on a friends borrowed J Boats J 105 in the North Channel of Lake Huron and Canada (part of the Great Loop). Those few weeks, and watching other channels like Gone With the Wynns, Sailing Uma, Project Atticus, Delos, Nahoa, and Sailing La Vagabonde, convinced us that the sailing life was for us. We bought our boat, a J Boats J/46, in 2019 after spending years searching for the perfect bluewater sailboat to sail around the world. We were interested in a catamaran and monohulls, but loved the performance cruising design of the J(it is faster than most cruising catamarans). We spent six months refitting her in Rhode Island, before selling our house and cars, quitting our jobs, and leaving land life for good to become digital nomads, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn. We have since navigated over 12,000 miles together, through storms, big waves, pandemics, and lockdowns. We set up some visits for the boats we select together with our clients both for charter and sale. Im Frühjahr 2020 erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Originally built as a tug boat in 1964, VERVECE accomplished a two-year major refit in 2015 which was a complex and fascinating project, almost unique for this type of vessel. The idea was to build a ship capable of satisfying guests with the desire to experience yachting without limits, by preserving the original characteristics of a tug vessel. Navaldesign & Consulting developed 3D design drawings, Moroso Starita studio engineered hull structural drawings and produced stability calculation. Interior designers Ida Penta and Francesco Scardaccione were responsible for the interior layout optimization and interior design. The original engines were replaced by 2 new Cummins engines that guarantee maximum comfort for guests and the best optimisation of fuel consumption. The engine room in the aft was re-engineered and equipped with modern machinery and equipment. This allowed reducing the engine room’s length to the advantage of guest cabins space. lnsulation and soundproofing were the main requirements of the conversion. The exterior was equally a subject of substantial work. The main and upper decks were covered with good-quality teak. The air conditioning system was designed to work in extreme weather conditions, from 50°C to -45°C, allowing the custom choice of temperature and ventilation in each cabin. Air treatment ensures a very high level of comfort on board. There is accommodation for eight guests in four cabins, comprising a master suite with a queen-sized bed, a VIP cabin with a queen-sized bed, and two twin cabins. Large areas are dedicated to living spaces on the main deck, the galley and the master cabin are situated in the middle-fore part. Two guest cabins, a VIP cabin, the Captain's cabin and crew mess are located on the lower deck. Two crew cabins are situated in the aft part with access to the main deck. A saloon fitted with large teak table and chairs, with a corner for study is located on the upper deck. The wheelhouse is located on the upper deck and finished with white lacquered ash and teak with elements of black leather inserts, giving this space a more classic and traditional character. Captain and crew have the most advanced equipment at their disposal, and the vessel is able to navigate and be enjoyed all year round with possibility to get into any port in the Mediterranean and overseas.
