Canadian Ken and I fell hard for this 47-foot cutter, and we think you will too. Designed by Eldredge-McInnis and launched in 1947 at the Stockden yard in Detroit, Prowess is one of those rare classic yachts that stops you in your tracks. She’s graceful, strong, and simply stunning under sail or at the dock. In the 1980s, Prowess underwent a comprehensive three-year restoration that transformed her from stem to stern. The ballast was removed, the deck and cabin house rebuilt, interior refinished, and a substantial portion of the planking and backbone replaced. She received a new deck, expanded and improved cabin house, modernized systems and rigging, and a fresh Westerbeke diesel (now with less than 900 hours). Additional highlights: - Full complement of sails (plus spares!) - Gorgeous interior with updated furnishings - Stored indoors on a dirt floor (ideal for preserving classic yachts) - Offered at $81,000 OBRO [See below re: Chainplates] Prowess was generously donated to the Maine Island Trail Association (MITA), and 100% of the proceeds from this sale will support their nonprofit mission. Note: Chainplates will need to be replaced (survey estimates $15k–$20k at Belmont Boatworks). This is negotiable as part of the purchase price. This is more than just a boat—it’s a piece of American yachting history that sails like a dream. If you’ve ever wanted to own a true classic, this is your moment.
