The Raw Reality of Offshore Sailing - Torn Sail, No Fuel & Wild Weather | Day 12
Day 12 of our sail from the USA to South America… and this is where the crossing starts to get rough. After finally reaching stronger winds out in the Caribbean Sea, the conditions quickly deteriorate and our headsail completely shreds offshore. With over 30 knots of wind, building swell, and no fuel left to rely on, we’re forced to drag the sail down on a violently rolling deck and attempt repairs in the middle of the ocean. Exhausted, sleep deprived, sea sick, and running purely on adrenaline, this turned into one of the hardest days we’ve faced aboard Escapade so far. Even Tom — who has never been sea sick before — finally reaches his limit while helping repair the sail down below. To make things worse, we get caught in a nasty squall with winds of 45 knots as the reality of offshore sailing really begins to hit. This episode is a raw look at what life can actually be like crossing an ocean on a 40ft sailboat when things stop going to plan. ⛵ Follow the journey as we sail from the USA to Colombia aboard our 40ft sailboat, Escapade — daily episodes documenting the reality of life offshore, ocean crossings, unexpected moments, and everything that comes with sailing across the Caribbean Sea. 🔥 If you’re enjoying the series, you can now Hype this video on YouTube to help push it to more people and support the channel. 🎥 Watch from the beginning: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcpg_1nM2Z5x0VEfLF0XzUTVuvq 🫶🏽 Support the channel & get early access/ad-free videos: https://www.patreon.com/Leadingtheescapade ☕ One-off support: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/leadingtheescapade 📍 Follow us in real time: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leadingtheescapade #offshoresailing #oceancrossing #boatlife
