STUCK in the MUD! Ep. 18

Yesterday we launched Turtle and we are so excited to be in the water! This morning one of the marina managers came to tell us that a slip was now available for us to use. Randall motored Turtle around to the slip while Kenzie walked with the marina lady on land. The slip was a corner space surrounded by other boats. Randall had to zig zag around in an "s" shape to get to the opening of the slip and ended hitting bottom just outside! Randall put the boat in full throttle as Kenzie and a worker guy pulled on ropes from the dock. Turtle was sitting in about 2 feet of mud and sat even deeper once the tide went down. We spent the day setting up the foresail and organizing the inside of the boat. We took several trips to town for odds and ends and were starting to feel anxious. We have been preparing for this trip for 5-6 years now, but there was still so much that needed to get done before we could leave. Randall had forgotten to fill the fuel tank, the flares were expired, and we still needed to find large enough tarps to cover the truck! While sitting stuck in the mud, we heard loud breathing coming from the water next to the boat. We have never been in Florida waters before and at first we didn't know what it was. It sounded and looked like alligators!
