Sailing Bimini and Cat Cay w/ Josh & Larry D. - February 2020

With a large northern cold front headed their way, Captain James, Captain Josh and Larry raced all night across the Gulf Stream. The crew starts in the Port Everglades and headed to south Bimini, where they anchored after a 12 hour crossing. With reports of the north Bimini channel being improperly marked and experiencing heavy shoaling, James braved the seas in the dinghy (Mrs.Kitty) to take a look at the current conditions of the channel entrance. Next task - clearing into customs and immigration. With the blow building, the guys caught & cleaned some conch and tucked in at south Bimini for the night. The next day the north swell increased to 6-8 foot seas with winds blowing 25 knots, forecasted to clock around from the east. With those conditions, north Bimini was out of the question for entry. The little hide out left them exposed to the east. So, they sailed south to Cat Cay and anchored up for the night on the south west side. The next day the guys all went for a dinghy adventure, exploring south Cat Cay and hunted the shallows for lunch. The following day the seas layed down, and with the wind out of the east, the crew sailed north and finally entered north bimini channel. They docked up at the world famous Bimini Big Game Club. They walked around and reminisced of past trips to this historic island, enjoyed the sunset on radio beach with coconut drinks. Followed up with dinner at the club and lots of stories. After a late night, the guys finally caught some sleep and awoke early for the crossing back to Florida. Thanks to Josh and Larry for the spontaneous adventure.
