Maverick's (Tom) "love interest" is "Penny" (Jennifer). She's a sailboat owner that Tom offers help on her "engine problem". On his Late Show, Colbert's interview talks about Jennifer's "training" to do her own "stunts"... in this case, Jennifer learning how to sail, then skippering a J/125 sailing on San Francisco Bay with Tom Cruise.
