Ep 6. Sailing Gibralter to Ibiza (Sailing Susan Ann II)

Episode 6 We finally leave Gibraltar! We get lots of work done to make the boat more suitable for cruising in Gibraltar but you have to draw a line eventually and just get going. One of the hardest steps is just leaving the quayside. Our sail to Ibiza took 3 days which was a great opportunity for the 2 of us to see how living at sea would be and learn what our roles. We couldn’t have hoped for a more perfect first 2 days but then we hit 20 knot winds on the nose. Catamarans do NOT like to sail into wind, especially in the Mediterranean Sea where there’s a very short wave length. Cats slam and the boat sounds as tho it’s falling apart. That is an exaggeration obviously but upwind sailing is best avoided. We beat into wind for 12 hours and couldn’t have deserved that sangria any more.
