Initially, Jean-Hubert used existing hulls from the Astus range... and then VPLP naval architects got involved: the Astus 14.5 has been bestowed with new hulls... The float fits into the main hull and the Astus 14.5 is available, with larger link arms and an additional float, as a pocket trimaran. The first tests with VPLP took place on Saturday, November 21st. Initial feedback: “in prao mode, it's fun, you play a balancing act, just like in skiff. In trimaran configuration, it's a quiet ride!”. Multihulls World will be on board on November 24th! En plus, il peut naviguer en mode trimaran ou prao ! Cela faisait beaucoup d’excellentes raisons de tester ce petit bolide au plus vite. Nous n’avons pas été déçus, jugez-en plutôt... L’idée était de mettre au point un prao monodrome - il navigue alternativement avec son flotteur au vent ou sous le vent - dans l’esprit du Proa 42 des années 1980, c’est-à-dire facilement transportable sur le toit d’une voiture et rapide à monter et gréer, même seul. Au départ, Jean-Hubert a utilisé des flotteurs existant dans la gamme Astus… et puis le cabinet VPLP s’en est mêlé ; l’Astus 14.5 a droit à des carènes inédites… Le flotteur s’emboîte dans la coque principale et l’Astus 14.5 se décline, avec des bras de liaison plus grands et un flotteur supplémentaire, en trimaran de poche. Les premiers essais en compagnie de VPLP se sont déroulés samedi 21 novembre 2020. Premiers retours : « en mode prao, c’est fun, on peut jouer les équilibristes comme en skiff. En configuration trimaran, c’est de la ballade tranquille ! ».
