Just the sound of the waves, the wind, and the boat slicing through the Caribbean Sea. Day 1 delivered perfect sailing conditions - the best I’ve ever had on this route. With our Code 0 flying, Mirage surged forward at a 125° true wind angle and 23–24 knots of breeze, covering an incredible 200 nautical miles in the first 24 hours. The Code 0 proved once again to be a mighty sail. Day 2 brought calmer winds at 12–14 knots, a peaceful change of pace… But on Day 3, the wind returned and carried us straight into Puerto Real, right on schedule. I was joined by an old friend - recently retired and now discovering the joy of Caribbean sailing. He kept watch with me at night and shared every sunrise, sunset, and mile of this crossing. We end the passage with a well-deserved dinner in Puerto Real to celebrate a journey well sailed. Her classic pilothouse lines will probably always be in style, and the Voyager’s spacious cherry wood interior ranked with the best cruising yachts of her day. The layout has the galley forward in the salon rather than on the pilothouse level as it is in many similar yachts. A curved settee is next to the centerline lower helm, and steps behind the helm lead up to the bridge. There are three staterooms and two heads below including a full-beam master with washer/dryer cabinet and tub/shower in the private head. A walkaround queen berth is in the forward VIP stateroom, and the third guest stateroom's berths can convert to a sofa. On the upper deck, aft of the helm, is a circular lounge area with a molded table that accommodates eight or nine adults. Additional features include cockpit engine room access, joystick steering, and bow thruster. Baja California Sur is a magical place, where the ocean is still wild and full of life. This expedition has been created to take you further offshore for the chance of encountering some of the ocean's most spectacular creatures. We will be based in La Ventana, a small town on the Gulf of California, facing the majestic Isla Cerralvo. We will be focusing on searching for the epic Mobula Munkiana aggregations. These amazing animals come together for mating and feeding before migrating out of the Sea of Cortez into the Pacific Ocean. The abundance of food in this area is one of the primary reasons for the abundance of life, and as usual, where there is food, there are predators. We will often travel up to 40 miles offshore or up and down the coast to hopefully encounter incredible animals.
