Everyone enjoys seeing dolphins round their boat. And it seems catamarans attract more dolphins than monohulls. Presumably because the two bows are more fun to play with - and yes dolphins definitely play on the bow waves. We've seen two swim fast under the bridgedeck from port stern to starboard bow and vice versa, crossing underneath and seeing how close to the bow they could get. And we've seen the other dolphins clearly laughing at the one who hit our bow when cutting it too fine. That didn't happen this time, but here's a recent video taken when sailing our 30ft Sagitta catamaran from Fowey to Plymouth. Unusually for the English Channel it was clear, flat water so we could watch them easily.

It's a complicated job but we'll get it done 😊 We are a Swedish family who have sailed the world since 2016 while sharing the adventures here on YouTube. While we are still sailing, our main focus now a days is building RAN III, a 52 ft sailboat that we are building from scratch. We leave the paradise of Maratua and sail south through the Makassar Strait, encountering fierce currents and some surprisingly large rogue waves along the way. Mid-passage, Chris tackles a leak in the watermaker to keep everything running smoothly onboard. Our first stop is the tiny town of Sendana, where the locals warmly welcome us and get us involved in a fun local challenge. Continuing further south to Pamangangang, we capture some stunning drone footage of the islands and crystal-clear waters before finally arriving in the bustling city of Makassar. Once ashore, we hire a couple of tuk tuks to show us around the city, stock up on diesel fuel, fresh fruit and vegetables, and visit one of the most incredible mosques we have ever seen. From remote island life to the energy of a major Indonesian city, this leg of the journey had it all. WHO ARE WE? Hey there! We’re Chris and Jo, an ordinary Aussie couple living our extraordinary dream aboard our Seawind 1260 since January 2019 and now we continue from 2024 aboard our new 1370! Our adventure began with an unforgettable journey down the east coast of Australia, followed by a sail to the stunning New Caledonia. In 2020, we continued our exploration further north, and by 2021 and 2022, we circumnavigated Australia, discovering breathtaking locations along the way. Having previously owned fishing and water-skiing boats, our passion for sailing deepened after crewing in South Australia, leading us to make the leap into full-time living at sea. We hope to inspire you, just as we were inspired by other YouTube channels, to chase your dreams and explore the wonders of this beautiful world. Join us on our journey, and don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more sailing adventures! #seawind1370 #seawindcats #sailing #sailingboat #sailingyacht #yacht #yachting #yachtinglifestyle #cruisinglife #boatlaunch #makassar #mosque

One of the most interesting parts of our boat life is our hurricane strategy. In the last few days we faced our first dilemma of which way to run from the first hurricane of this 2023 season in the Caribbean named Bret. We share all that and more with you in this episode. Yachting Magazine Virtual Q&A Session - Like most disruptive ideas, the journey of creating CLX96 began with a clear vision emboldened by passion: to embody CL Yachts’ innate love of adventure, our acute connection with modern explorers, and an inherent desire to push luxury into uncharted waters. The result is a departure from the traditional motor yacht – a creation born from fresh eyes, new thinking, and smart design.
There’s something very appealing about a boat that knows exactly what it is. The Harbour Classic 52 by Whitehaven Motor Yachts leans into that understated Down East styling that so many experienced boaters seem to come back to later in life. Classic lines, shaft-drive diesels, practical spaces and a layout that feels designed for real owners rather than a boat show checklist. For many people this probably isn’t a “first” boat. It’s more likely the result of years spent sailing, owning larger yachts or simply understanding what actually matters once the novelty wears off. Today we take a closer look around the Harbour Classic 52 here on the Gold Coast, Queensland and explore who will likely see the most value in a boat like this. From the 2.4m tender garage and social cockpit layout to the surprisingly simple operation, there’s a lot to unpack here. In the next episode we’ll take her offshore for a full sea trial and see how she performs underway. A video update about the 2017 Wrinkleboat Ran-Tan on Lake Pleasant, AZ. Please excuse the video quality, and the recording being in 'narrow screen', as it was this was originally recorded as a Facebook LIVE FEED.

Chris Kobusch & Sophie O'Neill are longtime friends of 59º North. Chris was in fact one of our full-time skippers for two years on ICEBEAR & FALKEN, and Mia & I recently attended their wedding in England last September. Both professional sailors, they met on the Clipper Race, where Sophie was a last-minute sub-in as First Mate and sailed across the Pacific with Chris. Since then they've led an adventurous life together, working for Skip Novak in Antarctica and buying & refitting their own steel boat OCEAN WANDERER. Like Mia & I, they're now balancing family life with their son Xander, and professional sailing, and recently announced a new project where they'll be building a Wharram 62 catamaran and sailing to the South Pacific. I spoke to them about all of this from their home base on the Isle of Wight just before Christmas. -- Support the podcast & become a member of The Quarterdeck, where Andy, August & Mia dive deep on the art of seam'nship. Nerd out with us on our members-only forum and talk boats, gear, safety-at-sea, meet like-minded sailors, find crew, and more. Check it out on quarterdeck.59-north.com.
