Christian Beck caused quite a gasp amongst the media when he famously described his 100-footer LawConnect very unflatteringly, prior to his first race to Hobart. His tactic for painting LawConnect as the Hobart Line Honours under-dog has however proven that she is nothing of the sort, with the veteran 100 footer winning back-to-back Line Honours in 2023 and 2024. Whether she can pull off the three-peat remains to be seen, but the 2025 race will be something of a family affair with his wife and son both joining the team. The crew will also include multiple Olympic gold medal winning swimmer, Ian Thorpe.

Abbiamo mollato gli ormeggi da Cagliari per portare Frida a Olbia, dove ci aspetta un nuovo corso VitaInVela: da Olbia alla Maddalena, poi verso Stintino. Un viaggio che, sulla carta, sembrava lineare… ma si sa, il mare ha sempre qualcosa da raccontare. All’inizio c’eravamo solo io e Cristina. Rotta verso Porto Corallo, con vento leggero e il sole in faccia. Un’andatura dolce, quasi meditativa. Poi è arrivato Ale e, come se il mare volesse metterci subito alla prova, ha cambiato faccia: vento forte, poi vento contro, poi… bonaccia. Siamo passati da vele cazzate a motore acceso, da silenzi lunghi a risate forti. E in mezzo a tutto questo, anche i delfini: loro non mancano mai, come se fossero parte della nostra piccola crew. Quando un fronte è arrivato minaccioso nel Golfo di Orosei, ci siamo fermati qualche ora nel porto riparato di Santa Maria Navarrese. Pausa, ascolto, pazienza. Poi, all’una di notte, via di nuovo: partenza notturna e navigazione fino ad Olbia, dove siamo arrivati il giorno dopo alle 17, con la barca e l’equipaggio sorridenti, stanchi e felici. Ora Frida è pronta per il prossimo corso. La stagione si apre a nord, tra le meraviglie della Maddalena e di Stintino, e la prossima settimana… si parte per Livorno, con un altro gruppo, un altro viaggio, un’altra storia da scrivere insieme. 🌀 In barca impari che ogni traversata è unica.
