Due to accidentally shearing off the bleed screw when bleeding the fuel systems after a fuel filter change, we need to change the feed pump (sometimes called a lift pump, or bleed pump). 00:00 bleeding the engine 01:25 disaster strikes - we shear the bleed screw off inside the pump housing 03:05 installing the new pump 05:28 fuel leak around the filter... identify and rectify the fault 06:02 fixed the problem. Run engine for test, clean up.

After an aggressive couple weeks, everything has been put into motion. We are doing our best to stay true to the challenge, so film time may be brief. That being said, climb aboard for our first look at this cheap catamaran! Meet Mahi Mahi: This vessel is a 1962 42' (48' LOA) CSK Catamaram built by Rudy Choy himself. There is some pretty awesome history to go along with it, but we will cover that in a separate video. Mahi Mahi has had a rough life, so there is plenty of work to be done. Between her age, and the poor repairs made by the last owner, we have taken on the challenge of repairing several soft areas in Mahogany Wood Hull, separated and broken ribs, and many other urgent issues. Over the last year, we have had 5 or 6 close calls with holes opening up along previously repaired areas. Some leaks filled our hulls to chest height with water, but Mahi managed pulled through each time. Our goal for this project is to build her up from the ribs and stringers into a fully functioning liveaboard vessel, with a total price of $50k. Warmer weather is calling, but Steve and Robin (and even Akiva) can’t forego the opportunity to take a few American Sailing Association (ASA) certification classes with Captain Scott from Bow to Stern Boating. It’s cold—some might even say TOO cold for man overboard drills—but they get through it, and successfully retrieve “Bob” using a variety of different techniques. The ASA certification courses, along with the opportunity to handle sailboats other than Arabella, was incredibly helpful in developing Robin’s skill set and confidence. While Steve won’t leave Oriental with a shrimp tour under his belts, he and Robin will both leave with their ASA 101 and ASA 103 certifications—and with an inch of ice in the harbor! Robin escapes to Florida for a work thing, and Annie B. and Jack are granted permission to come aboard. First stop with Annie B. and Jack is Beaufort, but just for a night. The crew needs to keep moving, and the weather forecast—which they gathered using a few different tools, like PredictWind and NOAA—looks good enough, and everyone feels comfortable making a run south to Charleston. This video provides a quick rundown on the second alternator system which Tom has installed. We looked closely at the high performance alternators and regulators available on the market in 2024 and identified what we think are the best items, to provide impressive levels of battery charging performance. Please feel free to ask for further information in the Comments. Note: At 3:40 - rather than using the Cerbo's Ethernet port, the VE.Can port is the one to use. Equipment details are: Alternator - Electromaax Genmaax 250A-12V Remote Rectified. Choose the 1&7/8 inch pulley to get a 2.5:1 ratio with the pulley in the Volvo bracket kit. https://electromaax.com/products/genmaax/ Regulator - Arco Zeus High Energy Bluetooth Alternator Regulator. https://arcomarine.com/products/arco-zeus-high-energy-alternator-regulator Bracket Kit - Volvo Penta Extra Alternator Bracket Kit, part 21384685. Some items in the kit are not needed, but this is the least expensive way to get the bracket, tensioner arm, pulley, spacer & nuts and bolts that are needed. Alternator belt - Gates K050405 (a.k.a. Goodyear K050405). This belt has an outside circumference of 1035mm, which is slightly shorter than the belt in the Volvo bracket kit, being 1067mm. This works with a Genmaax 250A alternator with the 1&7/8” pulley, in the upper position on a Volvo Penta D2-75 engine, using the 119.1mm pulley included in the Volvo bracket kit.
