Not the most exciting bit of kit onboard… but absolutely critical. 🔧 Why This Matters If you think about it, jubilee clips are everywhere on a boat: Engine cooling systems Fuel lines Freshwater systems Bilge pumps Exhaust hoses Anywhere you’ve got a hose… you’ve probably got a clip holding it in place. And if that clip fails—especially below the waterline—you’re not just dealing with a leak… 👉 You could be dealing with a sinking boat. ⚠️ What We Cover in This Video In this D-Log, I break down everything you need to know, including: Why jubilee clips fail (corrosion, vibration, poor quality, overtightening) The difference between cut-out and grooved thread clips Why cheaper clips can actually damage your hoses The key differences between 304 and 316 stainless steel Why 316 (especially 316L) is the only real choice for marine use Why anything below the waterline should ALWAYS be double clipped 🛠️ Simple Checks That Could Save Your Boat This is one of those jobs that takes minutes… but could prevent a disaster. ✔ Check for corrosion or rust ✔ Look for pitting or sharp edges ✔ Make sure clips are tight (but not overtightened) ✔ Upgrade to 316 stainless grooved clips where needed ✔ Double clip all below-waterline hoses 💡 Final Thought It’s easy to ignore the small stuff onboard… But often, it’s the smallest components that cause the biggest problems. Sometimes you just need to slip away to a place where no one knows your name. For Toni and me, that place has become St. John’s Creek—tucked off St. Leonard Creek, tucked off the Patuxent River—a sanctuary within a sanctuary. It’s quiet, protected, and perfectly suited for kicking our feet up while the shoreline wildlife and the parade of birds overhead provide the entertainment. On our last visit, we discovered a tiny deserted beach, the kind that feels like it appears only for those who truly need it. It was too perfect not to return with a proper picnic. So we packed a basket with the good stuff, grabbed our beach chairs, loaded up the Miss Annemarie, and set off to create another moment in time. Our first course set the tone: delicate blinis crowned with caviar, caprese bites bursting with freshness, and blue cheese stuffed olives with just the right briny punch. The second course was a playful masterpiece—liver pâté topped with muenster, shielding a thin slice of kosher dill pickle from the almighty Mt. Olive, all resting on pumpernickel tea bread. For variety, we added crisp garden cucumbers atop a cream cheese–onion mixture, finished with fresh dill and tucked between slices of rye tea bread. Dessert was its own celebration: French éclairs, coconut wrapped macarons, and warm apple strudel. And because every great picnic deserves a flourish, we toasted it all with the finest pink champagne. Eventually, the radar nudged us back to reality. Thunderstorms were marching toward St. John’s Creek, so we returned to Moments in Time, packed up, and made our way back to Solomons. Once home, we weren’t quite ready to let the magic fade—so we grilled Asian infused sticky ginger scallion soft shell crabs for dinner. What a day. What a feast. What great Moments in Time. The journey was spectacular, but no more than actually chatting with the man himself, Mr. Santa Cruz, Bill Lee, the 84-year-old boat designer genius. It was a treat to chat with him, but the most surprising part of the show might be with Ohana's navigator, who is not a veteran of the many lake battles nor a grizzled swaby with miles of course left behind her, no, we met a high school senior, Ana Kozak, who is the 17-year-old navigator of a major Corinthian sailing program and you won't believe how good she is as a member of the crew, but more importantly, how much respect she commands because of her talents. Beneteau Antares 9 V2: prova con 2 Suzuki 250 CV Proviamo la Beneteau Antares 9 V2 sul Lago di Garda con una motorizzazione da ben 500 CV: 2 Suzuki fuoribordo da 250 CV. Scopriamo spazi, cabine, comfort, consumi e prestazioni della nuova versione, portandola fino a quasi 40 nodi. La Beneteau Antares 9 V2 misura 9,29 metri di lunghezza e 2,99 metri di larghezza. Una barca pensata per chi cerca grande abitabilità, comfort per la famiglia e la possibilità di trascorrere più giorni a bordo, senza rinunciare alle prestazioni. Cosa cambia sulla Beneteau Antares 9 V2? Nella versione V2 il tetto è stato allungato per offrire maggiore copertura nella zona di poppa. Con l'opzione soft top apribile è però possibile scegliere rapidamente tra ombra e sole. Il pozzetto offre una grande seduta a ferro di cavallo per circa 6 persone e può essere configurato con il tavolo oppure trasformato in un ampio prendisole di poppa. Con la chiusura completa tramite capottina, questa zona può diventare anche un ulteriore spazio protetto per la notte. A prua troviamo un secondo grande prendisole con schienale regolabile, mentre sul lato di tribordo è presente un'apertura laterale molto comoda per salire e scendere durante l'ormeggio all'inglese. Interni, cabine e posti letto Gli interni della Antares 9 V2 sono luminosi e ben ventilati grazie alle grandi aperture, alla porta laterale, alla porta di poppa e al passauomo sul tetto. La dinette può trasformarsi in un ulteriore letto e lo schienale reversibile permette di creare una seduta rivolta verso prua durante la navigazione. Sottocoperta troviamo la cabina armatoriale a prua, una seconda cabina con vero letto matrimoniale di circa 2 metri di lunghezza e un bagno completo con WC, lavello e possibilità di fare la doccia. La barca dispone inoltre di cucina e, considerando le diverse configurazioni degli spazi, può arrivare ad offrire fino a 8 posti letto. L'esemplare della prova è particolarmente accessoriato con Starlink, radar, antenna TV, faro, roll bar per lo sci nautico, strumentazione Garmin, autopilota, ecoscandaglio, elica di prua e comandi elettronici Suzuki. È stata installata anche una soluzione energetica aggiuntiva per aumentare l'autonomia a bordo e utilizzare dispositivi a 220 V. Prova, consumi e velocità della Antares 9 V2 Come naviga la Beneteau Antares 9 V2 con 500 CV? A 20 nodi abbiamo rilevato circa 3.500 giri/min per motore, con un consumo complessivo indicato di circa 52 litri/ora: un'andatura interessante per percorrere molte miglia in crociera. Portando invece al massimo i due Suzuki 250 CV, durante la prova abbiamo raggiunto circa 39 nodi a 5.800 giri/min, con la velocità ancora in crescita. A questa andatura il consumo indicato era di circa 158 litri/ora complessivi. Abbiamo testato anche l'accelerazione: partendo da fermi, la Antares 9 V2 entra in planata in circa 5 secondi, un risultato notevole considerando un peso di circa 5.000 kg. La Beneteau Antares 9 V2 è quindi una barca interessante per chi cerca due cabine, bagno, cucina, grandi spazi esterni e comfort per le vacanze, ma vuole anche prestazioni importanti grazie alla doppia motorizzazione fuoribordo.
