Going to check on 'Undina' who I have been maintaining & sailing for quite a while. A few extra lines were added before the gale. This film is taken in the aftermath of the gale. All in good order. Shame about the boat next door 28th October 2013
Action packed episode. Dolphins come alongside and wish me well as I leave Falmouth heading for France. After a terrible night on the tale end of a gale around Ushant, I nearly get hit by another boat entering Lorient. My old buddy Northern Rom turns up and explains the historical, or should that be 'hysterical' use of 'Sausage boats while we explore the old Uboat base in Lorient. We also checkout the best bar in the World. Please note that the commentary regarding the Second World war is in the interest of historical events and in no way represents any political opinion whatsoever. The skit on 'Sausage boats is not meant to make light or disrespect past historical events. Hope you enjoyed the video. For realtime updates please checkout my Facebook page 'Adventures of an old Seadog' I'd love you to thumbs up the video here on Youtube and, if you haven't already, subscribe. Thank you for your support. Safe sailing x

This episode we leave Koolama Bay at the King George River entrance and sail to Butterfly Bay before rounding Cape Londonderry and have a quick stop at the Stewart Islands. Doing a quick lap around the island we come across a couple very large crocodiles slides and one on the waters edge, where we had just waded through a shallow river to a lagoon. Moving to the Governor Islands we explore the beach and while sitting and having our sun downer drinks, a large crocodile sneaks up and hides at the edge of the beach watching us. We continue to Honeymoon Bay and meet a lovely family after raiding their camp site thinking it was the office, and then explore the Pago Mission ruins with them. We finish at Anjo Cove where the boys do a little fishing and have their most successful trip yet. #seawind1260 #honeymoonbay #kimberleys #seawindcats

Looking to buy a used sailboat but don't know what to look for? Do you want to understand some basic things to watch out for in order to pre-qualify or eliminate sailboats from your want-to-buy list? We have you covered. Veteran surveyor, Jim, is here to walk us through all the things he would watch out for based on his 40+ years of experience surveying thousands of boats. We take a look at sailboat propellers, max props, two-bladed props, three-bladed props, cutlass bearings, zincs, line cutters and prop shaft struts... and Jim helps us understand what to look for when buying a used sailboat. His knowledge is immense and this is Part 1 in a multi-part series about things you can pay attention to when buying a used sailboat. Part 2 will cover rudders, keels, thru-hulls, bottom paint, and other critical things for buyers to take note of before getting serious and calling a surveyor. ====== Curious about Jim's Moisture Meter? check it out here https://www.amazon.com/Protimeter-BLD5765-Non-Invasive-Moisture-Display/dp/B00GS2CZZW?&_encoding=UTF8&tag=yachthunters-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=dd5a66ac894bf2635125f742f403f855&camp=1789&creative=9325 [that's an affiliate link] ============== Support us ============== Like what we're doing & want to help?? Wings II is a custom built sailing and adventure catamaran, designed by Angelo Lavranos. Originally built to charter in Auckland, New Zealand ... but after discovering the beautiful Whitsundays she crossed the ditch and made a home for herself in Airlie Beach. Built for Sailing and stability Wings II vessel is the perfect Sailing catamaran at 50ft long she is very spacious inside & fully air conditioned. There are three areas inside for comfortable seating, large galley area, flat screen TV/DVD player and 4 main hull cabin areas. Recently having an extensive refit the vessel will offer 2 forward guest ensuite staterooms and 2 aft private double cabins. A large part of your time on any cruise or charter is spent at anchor. Multihulls have large deck space and Wings II is no lightweight here either with over 125 sq/m of deck space there's enough room to get lost. Angelo Lavranos is a great boat designer and Wings II is a great social boat with an open helm area and large foredeck, net trampoline areas with a great open aft deck / Weber BBQ area. We like to think of this boat as the great sailing entertainer and she's my favourite boat for an afternoon sail on the bay with a large or small group of friends.

There are a number of sailing charter agencies that operate in the San Blas islands, but few meet the necessary standards for running quality private catamaran and sailboat charters and not fall into the backpacker standards. Here’s a list of things to look for when deciding who to trust in San Blas. A quick search on Google will display numerous possibilities for your next San Blas sailing charter. Deciding on one of them and putting the 1st payment down, purchasing your plane tickets, making hotel and transfer bookings and setting your mind for the ultimate Caribbean sailing experience is definitely a great effort and one that can be totally put to waste if you do not choose wisely your intermediary for such an exotic and special vacation. Here is a list of things to look for when choosing the best San Blas Sailing Company and boat charter agency. Dual purpose: some agencies focus in both giving service to backpackers and regular sailing charter guests such as families, group of friends etc. Needless to say that quality standards are not the same for the two types of guests. Food, cleaning, security, type of experience are a few of the totally different aspects that differentiate a backpacker travel agency and a sailing charter company. How to find out? simply review their website, their logo and web structure, pay close attention at the activities offered, presentation of food, state of the catamaran etc. Not their own boats and no alternative if your catamaran encounters a technical problem. This is not what you need, absolutely not. If one of our catamarans is down, another option is offered. You are most likely to get a free upgrade, we will try our best to provide you with a higher category catamaran at no extra cost. No preset itineraries means that the captain will decide by him/herself where to go and what to do. Having the possibility of going for a preset itinerary takes much of the worry off and sets the scene for an ordered vacation. Note that itineraries will be modified by the captain depending on your special interests and if the weather does not permit such a pre organised sailing route. Not visible on TripAdvisor or what is worst, displaying their "own client" reviews on their websites with no audit on them. Being public hurts at times, but a reputable sailing charter company must be on Trip Advisor. End of the story. No covid and other cancellation policies clearly stated in their Faqs with no link from their homepage. Clearly these times we live in need serious and clearly detailed cancellation policies, specially due to Covid reasons. You are putting your energy into this. Not 100% dedicated to San Blas and offering sailing charters in other Caribbean sailing areas or continents. A consistent charter agency in San Blas must be 100% dedicated to the San Blas islands. Being focused and offering the right information to guests is crucial and takes a lot of time and effort to put together. Not fluent in english and sloppy/not agile communication can derive in important confusions that can put to risk your experience in Kuna Yala. Language and other communication barriers can test your patience and alter the normal course of your sailing vacations just when you least expect it. Not showing the "not-so-spectacular" side of sailing in some of the most famous areas and islands and not being frank on some of the "not-so-comfortable" of what sailing in San Blas is. Like all, this archipelago has some places you can directly skip. With professionals onboard you can rest assure the captain and crew will know what to do at all times. Amateurs or what is worst, new comers to the area and with no ties to the indigenous community are not what you need. Not employing a Kuna guide or not mixing with the locals means missing out on the most important of what San Blas has to offer. No offense to backpackers and backpacker agencies, they are an amazing community that must be respected and understood like any other. We love them and they have for ever been a crucial part of the traveling community. Cheers to them! We want to remain being the best charter company in the San Blas islands and that can only be achieved by putting all of our love and dedication into our catamaran charters. San Blas, if approached correctly, is without a doubt the best and most authentic yacht charter destination in the Caribbean. Catamaran Adventures San Blas
This week aboard GOAT 2.0, our Lagoon 400, we officially start the next phase of upgrades by improving one of the most critical (and often overlooked) systems onboard: tank monitoring. We installed Gobius C tank sensors, bringing accurate, reliable tank level information back to the boat without drilling holes or dealing with unreliable floats. But it wasn’t all wiring and configuration—because boat life is also about balance. So we took a break, jumped on our Harley-Davidsons, and rode along the southern coast of Spain, discovering the town of Adra… and unexpectedly finding tequeños, which immediately made the trip worth it. ⚙️ GOBIUS C TANK SENSOR – TECHNICAL OVERVIEW The Gobius C is a non-invasive ultrasonic tank level sensor, designed specifically for marine environments where reliability and simplicity matter. Instead of installing probes or floats inside the tank, the Gobius C is mounted externally on the outside of the tank and uses ultrasonic technology to measure the liquid level through the tank wall. Key Features & Specs: Non-invasive installation – no drilling, no contact with liquids Ultrasonic sensing through plastic or fiberglass tanks Compatible with fresh water, grey water, and black water tanks NMEA 2000 compatible, integrating directly into modern marine networks Outputs real-time tank level data to chartplotters, MFDs, and monitoring systems Extremely reliable in sloshing conditions and under sail Zero maintenance, no moving parts On GOAT 2.0, the Gobius C sensors feed directly into our NMEA 2000 backbone, allowing us to see tank levels on our navigation displays and inside our Raspberry Pi / Signal K system. This is a massive upgrade over traditional float sensors, which are notorious for sticking, failing, or giving false readings. For a cruising catamaran, knowing exactly how much water you have left is not a luxury—it’s safety and autonomy. 🏍️ LIFE BEYOND THE BOAT After days of boat projects, we needed a change of pace. So we fired up the Harleys and rode along the stunning Andalusian coastline, ending up in Adra, a small coastal town with deep maritime roots and a relaxed, authentic vibe. And then came the surprise: tequeños. Crispy, cheesy, perfect fuel after a long ride. Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you’re not looking for them. IN THIS EPISODE: Installing Gobius C tank sensors on our Lagoon 400 Integrating tank data into NMEA 2000 & onboard systems Why non-invasive tank sensors make sense for cruisers Harley-Davidson ride along southern Spain Discovering Adra and unexpected comfort food FOLLOW OUR JOURNEY: Instagram Sailing & Tech: @sailing_svgoat Instagram Lifestyle: @nobodysride Facebook: Sailing SV GOAT
