Black Lion verdie, c’est clair, l’environnement n’est pas adapté aux bateaux. Il suffit de regarder ceux qui sont en Guyane depuis un certain temps, les pauvres souffrent d’une décomposition effrayante. Pour pallier à une dégradation rapide, la seule technique étant le nettoyage, nous lessivons sans relâche ! Quand on voit que des termites ont essayé de s’en prendre à notre table extérieure, nous nous estimons heureux de ne pas avoir un canot en bois, car le maintenir en état dans ce biotope tropical serait un challenge de tous les jours ! Côté insectes, soyons honnête, la Guyane en est farcie. Ce n’est pas un point négatif loin de là, sauf quand par mes gardes, une tique se retrouve dans mon nombril ! Bon après, vous allez me dire, ça peut arriver ailleurs ! Entendons-nous bien, ailleurs dans le monde, bien sûr ! C’est vrai, et nous en avons fait les frais aux Perlas ! On ne peut donc décemment pas reprocher à ce petit bout de France, son incroyable diversité, bien au contraire. Cette faune est tellement prolifique, qu’elle est passionnante. Comment par exemple, ces petits poissons ont-ils bien pu arriver dans le lac artificiel de cette carrière désaffectée ? La nature reprend ses droits, ça se voit bien du haut de la falaise que mon tchoupi vient de sauter ! Pour se sentir plus en confiance quand nous laissons Black Lion, nous utilisons l’application Anchor. Cela nous permet de pouvoir veiller à distance sur notre point d’ancrage. Pour cela, il nous faut deux cartes Sim. Une sur notre tablette restait à bord et l’autre sur le téléphone que nous avons avec nous. Les deux instruments associés, munis d’une alarme de mouillage et si Blacky chasse, nous sommes immédiatement avertis. Étant très souvent en vadrouille, ce programme est tranquillisant. Aujourd’hui c’est chez Claudio et Marie que nous allons. Claudio est amérindien, il a appris à parler français en écoutant la radio, il nous explique sa forêt ! Il essaie, à sa façon de partager le savoir qu’il a appris de ses ancêtres, de le transmettre aux plus jeunes, de sensibiliser sur la fragilité de son environnement. En l’écoutant, on se sent transporté dans son univers. Il vit sa forêt, la comprend, la vénère. Chaque plante, chaque arbre ont un rôle à jouer. Dans le tourouri, les graines de bossus assurent l’eau potable, l’huile de copahi va servir à cicatriser, le lait de mapah va soigner de l’asthme… Et il a les histoires, les légendes, les tenues traditionnelles… Une vie ne suffirait pas à apprendre de ce peuple, nous avons le privilège de recevoir comme un cadeau un peu de ses secrets… Et la nature n’en finit pas de nous éblouir, elle nous fascine, nous envoute presque ! Cette crique a une histoire, son nom « Gabriel », lui vient d’un esclave résistant. Révolté, il réussit à rassembler derrière lui, une cinquantaine d’hommes, de femmes et d’enfants dans les mêmes conditions que lui pour s’enfuir et se cacher dans les monts forestiers. Les fuyards s’organisèrent dans la forêt et y vécurent cachés pendant 5 ans jusqu’à qu’une milice les retrouve, mais Gabriel, lui, leur échappa, il refusait de mourir enchaîné. Depuis, la montagne qui domine le marais porte le même nom et les souvenirs de rébellion pour gagner la liberté reste à jamais conservés. En amont d’Eskol, la voûte d’arbres laisse la place au marais qui s’étend dans toute la plaine de Kaw. Les palmiers bâche de la savane inondée reflètent dans l’eau immobile. Nous perdons tous nos repères et dans ce silence étourdissant, nous sommes atteints d’une sorte de vivifiante ivresse ! Yesterday what was Tropical Storm Elsa became Hurricane Elsa a Category 1 Hurricane with sustained winds of 75 miles per hour. Lucky for us Reverie, as well as our home, is located in a protected area so we were blessed with a lot less rain than forecasted and winds only gusting to 30 knts moving from East to West (Offshore) which was the best case scenario. If you recall part of our storm plan included checking the tide tables to assess the effect of the storm surge in our area and how that would be affected by the tides. Lucky for us things worked as planned. The storm surge came into the bay area at the time when we had low tide. Check out how this combination impacted Reverie and how much worst it could have been should we have had high tide at the same time the storm surge came in. Enjoy!
