After waiting out bad weather in the Dry Tortugas we sail back to Key West. I drop off Zoe and set out alone offshore for a 7 day passage up the Gulf Stream. When the wind turns against the stream, the waves get big! Eventually I make landfall in Southport North Carolina. The RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show 2026 saw over 9,000 people visit Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre in the UK over the weekend of 21st & 22nd February to take in the feast of boats on display. There is a plethora of dinghy sailing classes in the UK, which is both a blessing and a curse for the sport, with some allowing restricted development over the years and others being almost completely open in design. Strict One Design classes have no change at all, whilst a few decide to make evolutionary changes, which can help the longevity of equipment, or make the boat easier to sail, without making existing boats uncompetitive. There were more classes celebrating significant anniversaries at the show than those we talked to, but a combination of time and availability led us the ones we feature here. Classes we speak to in this video are: - The B14 celebrating its 40th Anniversary - The Solo celebrating its 70th Anniversary - The Shearwater celebrating its 70th Anniversary - The Kestrel celebrating its 70th Anniversary - The Merlin Rocket celebrating its 80th Anniversary - The Firefly celebrating its 80th Anniversary - The National 12 celebrating its 90th Anniversary - The Norfolk Punt celebrating its 100th Anniversary Why is the number of dinghy classes both a blessing and a curse? The choice means there is something for everyone out there, but also means there is less 'One Design' racing at clubs and more racing using either the Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) or Great Lakes handicap systems. Take a look at https://www.yachtsandyachting.com/class/ to find out more about these classes, with many reports and photos, as well as links to the class association websites. You have to first rip out all of the old in order to rebuild with the new. The first step to a total refit/restore of the interior of our boat is ripping out all of the old headliner and plywood insulation. After this is done, we set our sights on the main bulkhead. We want the interior to be a clean slate before we start putting new stuff back in. When we're done, Freebie will be our dream yacht. We're planning on being back in the water in October whether we're ready or not. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ Suaoki G500 Portable Generator: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BDCD9BQ Enter discount code: 5DFZEDI5 for $26 off. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. Wow! What a great time it has been in Grenada. We visited a beach towards the south west side of the island and had a little fun over there. The view of the blue water beaches with the mountains surrounding us was so beautiful. After spending the evening on the beach we headed out to have dinner in a lovely restaurant overlooking the beach. The food was amazing! The next day we had to make a quick trip to the pharmacy because Ruby and Emerson have been complaining about an ear ache. So we had to get treatments for it. Right after that we pulled off from the main island to head up north towards Carriacou island, which is also an island of Grenada. That is where we were supposed to check out. It was so sad to leave beautiful Grenada. The people have been so amazing. We definitely got a little attached to this place! 😆 After some sailing and meeting new people along the way we pulled up into the northern island. We spent the night there to get checked out the next day. But the night was horrible! The winds were bad so we had to keep our eyes up throughout the night. The next day got a taxi and headed out to get checked out. Everybody was so kind except for a lady in there. We were pretty frustrated by the experience. But we got it done and started to head out to Union Island! After checking in we decided to get a quick haircut. Then we explored more of the island. We once again met a bunch of nice people and it was so much fun! As always thank you for watching. See you on the next episode! Enjoyed the video? At the 2016 U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, TheSailingChannel.TV talks with Meghan Matthews with Orca Green Marine about its new Omni Charging Buoy. This revolutionary device uses cutting edge technologies to capture and store electricity from solar, wind, current and tide, waves, and kinetic energy. Boaters will be able to pull up to an Omni Charging Mooring Buoy and charge their battery banks from the environment. Each buoy contains a 240 amp hour battery to store energy. For large mooring fields, the system will include large salt water ion battery banks that can store up to 10KW of excess energy created by the buoys. Located in Annapolis, Maryland USA, Orca Green Marine is an innovator in LED lighting and sustainable products for marine and other harsh environments. For more information, visit www.OrcaGreenMarine.com.
In this video, we sail to the Isthmus Cove at Two Harbors, Catalina Island. Due to poor planning and not getting a mooring reservation on Labor Day Weekend, we wind up having to anchor in 90 feet. After a rocky night and anchor we pick up and head to Hen Rock where we secured a mooring for the night. After a bit of snorkeling at Hen Rock, we give our Force 10 propane oven the ultimate test. The first mate cooks her first batch of chocolate chip cookies and they turn out perfectly. We motor sail in light winds back to Dana Point--an uneventual return with a little fog while transiting the shipping lanes.
