Derek is passionate about protecting our oceans for future generations and has accrued decades of experience working on the management of marine mammal conservation with commercial fisheries in Australia, the sub-Antarctic, Samoa and Fiji. Derek is a founding member of the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) Marine Mammal Working Group and has worked with the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA; through the DevFish Project), the Alaskan Longline Fishermen’s Association (ALFA) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) on related projects in the western central Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea. Well .... there are times when you have to go back to demolition mode. While removing the old icebox we noticed a lot of rotted wood. We also removed the old water heater which was not operational. So when we came to Reverie last night we decided to finish doing the demolition of the galley to see what we were dealing with. Boy I am glad I did. We decided to go electric in our galley so the propane is out. Stove/Tank/Hose/etc. We also removed the stove liner. Took the old shelves out and cleaned everything up so we could get a clean start. What did I see in the ocean today in South Floridas

On the remote island of Guanaja I did several dives where we had harmless nurse sharks follow us for most of the dive. At times they would come within a few feet. They were like puppy dogs. At one point the divemaster was showing me something on some coral and the shark comes right up to us and was like, "Hey, what are you guys looking at".
