For us, sailing in Calabria has been about family and re-discovering our roots. My Grandfather left as a young man, before World War II started and emigrated to America. My father's brother, "Luigi" stayed in Italy, fought in the war, was captured by the British in Africa, was a prisoner of war for many years and returned to fight for the resistance. His wife was pregnant with their first child, Marisa, when he left and Chiara was born when he returned to his family. His grandchild, Francesco married Francesca and had two beautiful children, Louise and Mikaela. They visited us at the Port of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Rochelle, Calabria. This episode is dedicated to their lineage, and mine, and shows footage of both our visit as well as footage of Uncle Luigi in the War, including his time as a prisoner and ultimate release. Our channel is generally all about sailing the Mediterranean. We help anyone who wants to sail the Mediterranean, whether they are brand new at it, aspiring to go, or just arm-chair traveling. We generally post about our adventures with beautiful scenery and helpful hints, but we also post about the challenges and how we resolve them. The boat is very well equipped to sail away. The interior is a practical three-cabin layout with two heads and two showers. The layout in the forward cabin cleverly separates the head and the shower into distinct compartments, the head on one hull with the shower/wash space on the other hull, allowing for simultaneous use without compromising privacy, ideal for couples or guests sharing the space. It also has a large 12V refrigerator (130 L) plus an extra Waeco 50 L fridge/freezer.
