Welcome back to the channel, and we can't wait for you to see this video. Not because of the sailing (there was plenty of that in the last video), but because we explore the underside of Tonga in a way that we just couldn't believe. The diving there was spectacular, but swimming with the humpback whales takes the cake. In the video, I think I mentioned that Tonga is the only place in the world you can do this, and it turns out there are few others, but it is extremely rare. We spent a whole day on a private dive boat learning about these creatures and how to interact with them without bothering them. It's mostly mothers and their calves, with a couple of male protectors swimming with them. We had the most amazing time. We also enjoyed Tonga's laid-back, casual vibe, and geologically speaking, it is a really rare series of canals dug into this land mass to create these little fjords, just unusual. The plateau area is very big with huge rocks covered in colorful soft coral, scattered all over the place. With the crystal clear water that is usually at this site, it's easy to feel like you are in a fantasy world with all he beautiful marine life and colorful fish. Many types of trigger fish, Banner fish, Napoleon Wrasse, Barracudas and a few types of travellies, including the beautiful golden travellies are all over the site. We believe that muck diving in Mabul, Malaysia at Scuba Junkie Dive Resort is the best in the world! And, that is no surprise given its location; the Coral Triangle is a triangular area located in the western Pacific Ocean and hosts an astonishing amount of marine life. Seventy-five percent of the world’s coral species are found here—nearly 600 different species. Over 2000 different types of reef fish find refuge in these dazzling underwater gardens, and this is an important place for tuna to spawn. Whales, dolphins, porpoises, dugongs and whale sharks feed, breed and migrate in these waters. And the Coral Triangle is home to six of the world’s seven species of marine turtles. Given Mabul’s location in the coral triangle, it is not a surprise that it boasts a wide variety of macro marine creatures and a proliferation of sea life we have not seen anywhere else in the world. When a group of 5 mating stonefish are photobombing a photograph of an ornate ghostpipefish, you know you are in macro heaven! This is why it has become our favorite macro dive destinations.
