Emily Caruso has spent 18 years and counting as a professional sailor, though only first learning about the sport in her late 20s. Growing up in the countryside in England, Emily had an epiphany one day during a weekend sailing excursion and hasn't looked back since. Andy & Emily sat down in person onboard FALKEN in Cape Verde to talk about her career path, what motivates and scares her, leadership, skippering Sir Francis Chichester's legendary GYPSY MOTH IV, working for 59º North, 'deep feeling' and so much more. -- If you liked this conversation you'll LOVE The QUARTERDECK, 59 North's 'deep dives on the art of seamanship.' Journey to this remote corner of Indonesia and snorkel some of the most pristine reefs found anywhere in the world with very good chances of encountering blue whales, pods of dolphins, and mola molas. We have been visiting Alor for many years and it continues to be one of our most exciting and interesting locations. Situated in the heart of the “Coral Triangle” you can expect many hours of snorkeling over incredible hard and soft coral reefs that are just exploding with life big and small. We've specifically timed this tour for July, which is one of the best months to spot blue whales as they migrate through Alor on their way north into the Banda Sea from Western Australia. This tour will also coincide with the new moon which brings upwellings of cold water along with mola mola which gives us the unique opportunity to swim with them as they paddle along on the surface.

In Episode 63 of the Sailing Goat Series, we find ourselves weathered in on Trizonia Island, deep inside the Gulf of Patras, facing some of the wildest wind shifts we’ve ever experienced. We moored with 35 knots of wind, expecting a rough night, but nothing could prepare us for what followed—three straight days of shifting gales. The wind would swing from north to south in minutes, bringing sudden 30–40 knot gusts with each shift. Then came the worst gust yet. A brutal blast of wind ripped our solar panels clean off the rollbar, launching them into the air before they crashed onto the concrete pier and shattered. The screws didn’t loosen—they snapped clean from the force. Thankfully, no one was hurt, and it happened while we were safely docked—not in the middle of an ocean passage, where it could have spelled disaster. 🍃 Moored in Madness: What we thought would be a calm anchorage turned into a lesson in wind management, as conditions flipped violently with no warning, multiple times per day. ⚡ Solar Panel Catastrophe: A rogue gust destroys our solar panels, teaching us the hard way about structural stress and mounting safety. But we’re grateful it happened here—not mid-ocean. 🌬️ Shifting Winds in the Gulf: The Gulf of Patras is notorious for unpredictable winds, but this was something else—catabatic-level blasts from changing directions, testing both our gear and patience. 💡 Silver Lining: We may have lost the panels, but we gained a valuable reminder: test everything before the big passages, and never take sheltered moorings for granted. 💬 Join the Conversation: Ever lost gear to unexpected weather? Got advice for mounting solar panels more securely? Let us know in the comments! 👍 If you enjoy real, raw sailing experiences and the unpredictable nature of life at sea, give this video a thumbs up, share it with fellow cruisers, and subscribe to the Sailing Goat Series for more. 🔗 Connect with Sailing Goat: Instagram: @nobodysride Instagram: @sailing_svgoat 📌 Hashtags: #SailingGoat #TrizoniaIsland #SolarPanelFail #WindStorm #GulfOfPatras #LifeAtSea #CruisingLessons #SailingDisaster ⛵ Join us as we endure brutal gusts, unexpected failures, and come out the other side—smarter, safer, and still smiling. Fair winds and following seas await!

► Three years after the launch of the M8, Prestige Yachts presented the M8 EVO in Monfalcone, Italy, a thoroughly optimized version of its flagship powercat. The changes are the direct result of feedback from owners cruising on oceans and seas around the world. ► On the exterior, the yacht features a more elegant profile thanks to new hull glazing, a redesigned black hull band, and a completely reworked hardtop. On board, the flybridge now extends across the yacht’s full beam, while the removal of the interior staircase and the reconfiguration of the living spaces improve circulation throughout the vessel. The enlarged galley, much larger dining area, and redesigned owner’s suite further enhance comfort. The berth returns to a more conventional fore-and-aft arrangement, while a double walk-in wardrobe and a significantly larger shower have been added. ► The builder has adopted more powerful MAN engines while also offering the Silent Mode package, which combines optimized energy management and solar panels to extend time at anchor in near-total silence. The Prestige M8 EVO will make its world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival. It will not be alone, however, as the new M6, which replaces the M48, has also been announced. ► Technical Specifications: Length Overall: 65'6" (19.98 m) Beam: 29'0" (8.85 m) Draft: 5'8" (1.73 m) Displacement: 41 t Powertrain: 2 x MAN i6 730 hp Max Speed: 21 knots Fuel: 977 US gal (3,700 l) Water: 277 US gal (1,050 l) Cabins: 4/5 + 1 crew Price: from ~ € 5,000,000 ex-vat ► www.prestige-yachts.com ► Un Live 🇫🇷 est disponible ici : ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests!
