My Chat 18 sailing catamaran and Skoota 18 powercat are very similar designs, but not actually identical. The Skoota hulls have more buoyancy aft to take the weight of the engine and of course it doesn't have a king post/mast support or keels. We've been sailing our Chat in the Plymouth area for several years but this year decided to use it as a motorboat. That would allow us to cruise to places inaccessible to most sailing boats. We fitted a 6hp outboard (the biggest the existing bracket can take - and anyway there is a 10 knot speed limit in the river Tamar) which gives a near 8 knot speed. We added a simple rope controlled steering wheel. No remote throttle or gear controls as they would be complicated to invent, and it is simple enough to adjust them from the back of the cockpit. The Tamar river and its estuaries hide many gems inaccessible to large boats. So our first trip was up the creek that runs from the Lynher to the small waterfront village of Forder. I've lived on the banks of the Tamar for over 40 years, yet this was first time I've ventured this far inland. There was just room to do a three point turn at the head of the creek. It dries out completely at low water, one reason why only small shallow draft boats are moored to its banks. The other of course is the railway viaduct! A very successful evenings motor. We plan lots more exploring later this summer, including going up the Tavy, which has a fixed 7m high rail bridge at its mouth. From exploring by land we know there's a great waterside pub at Bere Ferrers, and of course Buckland Abbey (home to Francis Drake) at the head of the navigable river. This project is to build a budget wooden motor boat in the Mexican jungle. Yeah, we had various problem in the beginning of this year, but now we are at full speed! We are now doing all stations and the bow before we can start with the ladder phase. This wooden motor boat is called Wooden Shoe. This is a unique project as we only using disponible wood from fallen trees. The original plans are for a 23 feet boat, but we have changed it to 25 feet and some extra cabin height. We make all frames and plywood. Before we could start with the boat build, we spent one year building a huge boathouse, 18 m long and 6 m wide and height.

Putting work in the hulls off for another week, we spent time on the inspection ports, the cockpit ceiling, and then got started on a whole new area, the Catwalk at the bow. Plus, we received an order from Selden that we will show you! We leave Preveza before the sun is up to head approximately 30 knm to a Greek paradise island; Paxos. First we moor up to the dock in Gaios, the islands capital & main harbour. Known for it's scenic sheltered river-like bay, it's colorful architecture, water-front cafes & restaurants, and it's mazes of narrow streets full of boutiques and shops. Our next stop was Lakka; crystal clear swimming, relaxed town but still plenty of atmosphere. Two nights here is never enough but we enjoy it while we are here. Le Egadi offrono angoli di mare elencati fra i più belli del Mediterraneo, dove potrete confondervi con la natura al di fuori del tempo, viendo sensazione di pace e di relax che solo la navigazione a vela regala per assenza di rumori.... solo puro piacere; sentire il vento e l'acqua sullo scafo, dimenticare lo stress delle città della routine di tutti i giorni; dormire in rada, magari al chiarore di luna... oppure sentirsi transtullare dalle onde serali di bonaccia, mentre si dorme o si dormicchia in silenzio (c'è chi lo fa in coperta, magari dentro un sacco a pelo...) in compagnia delle stelle, fattre più luminose, lontano dai bagliori delle città.... Svegliarsi presto di mattina, mentre tutti gli altri dormono, camminare lenti in barca e magari tuffarsi in santa pace... senza nessuno.... ritornare a bordo, fare colazione, leggere, osservare, vivere lentamente.... salpare quasi senza meta, liberi di navigare, quasi senza interesse... diventare tutt'uno con la barca, sentirla propria, vivere con lei le onde, il mare i panorami mozzafiato che immancabilmente ti faranno compagnia, si faranno trovare, non devi cercarli... le Egadi sono bellissime, favignana, levanzo, marettimo, ognuna ha una particolare specificità... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Including a short trip with TAP from Lisboa to Copenhagen to buy Marijke's birthday present. Took a little bit longer than expected because of a bird strike and rejected take off on Lisboa.

L’ultima mia partecipazione da attivista del MoVimento 5 Stelle è stata quella di fare la rappresentante di lista alle Europee prima di dare l’addio, dal punto di vista teorico, perché sicuramente come elettore voterò ancora per il M5S, e comunque la gente, il popolo del M5S mi interessa ancora, non mi interessa la sua gestione come partito, cosa che io denuncio sia diventato. Io sono entrata nel movimento dal primo giorno, io seguivo già le vicende legate alla Val di Susa e Grillo era uno dei pochi che ne dava informazioni. Allora riconoscevo a Grillo già da anni di essere una sorta di tribuno, che era uscito dalla Rai perché aveva avuto il coraggio di denunciare cose talmente evidenti, ed era diventato una voce del popolo, che si autotassava, riuscendo, nonostante tutto a rimanere in auge, anzi è riuscito ad avere più fortuna rispetto a tanti leccaculo che c’erano in RAI. A me dispiace criticarlo, ma io i miei amici li critico e io considero Grillo un mio amico, anche se c’è da dire che oggi criticare Grillo significa essere messi d’ufficio nell’ambito di questi pseudo dissenzienti che in realtà sono degli arrampicatori, non sono degli attivisti ma degli arrivisti del MoVimento. ...continua (leggi Il Grillo Parlante n.1 2015)

First day of the Qatar international regatta. Sail the Gulf from the 2nd to the 6th of february 2016. The organizing authority is the Qatar Sailing & Marine Sports Federation in cooperation with Katana. Ich habe in der Nacht von Gummibärchen geträumt. Zuckerentzug???!!! Wir sahen auf den Märkten Nordthailänder, die scheinbar schon stark von chinesischen Einflüssen geprägt waren. Wir beobachteten wie die Menschen hier ihr Abendessen wählten. Zu gerne sahen sie die Tiere in einem Stück, fassten sie das Fleisch an bevor sie es kauften, drehten es hin und her und wählten nach langer Zeit ihr passendes Fleischstücken. Es schien auch keinen zu stören wir lange das dauerte und wie oft das Essen von anderen angefasst wurde. Manches lud uns ein etwas auszuprobieren, doch manches ließ uns auch schneller laufen, da wir dem Essensduft“ entgehen mussten. Begleite uns auf unserer Reise um den Globus 🌍.
