In this episode, we sail off anchor from the stunning Serenity Island and make our way toward the Melbourne area—an ideal spot for restocking and regrouping. We drop anchor in a calm patch of water near Melbourne, where we take the opportunity to get much-needed supplies and provisions, including some brand new water jugs to make hauling water a bit easier (finally!) and a full gas top-up. But cruising life isn’t always smooth sailing. We hit a frustrating snag when our relatively new generator starts acting up—never fun when you rely on it for power on the hook. To top it off, we experience the outer effects of a hurricane passing through Florida. It’s a first for us, and the strong winds and squalls definitely remind us of Mother Nature’s power. The final epsiode of sailing Swans for 50 years, covers the year 2024 and first half of 2025, So actually 51 years. 2024 started in late April with the delivery cruise of a Swan 55 from Mallorca to Badalona. May and June followed with three delivery sails from the yard in Jakobstad, starting with a Swan 48 to Amsterdam, then a Swan 55 to Copenhagen and a Swan 78 to Stockholm. Back in Mallorca we sailed a family cruise on the Swan 55 between Mallorca and Ibiza, followed by a VAT-run to Gibraltar and back to Palma. In September we sailed the same Swan 55 from Palma to Porto Cervo and participated in Swan Cup 2025, before returning to Palma. In November the same Swan 55 was the delivered from Palma to Badalona for repairs. 2025 started in March with the delivery of a Swan 82 from Palma to Badalona and in early May the same yacht from Port Adriano (Mallorca) to Badalona. Immediately afterwards was then the transatlantic sail on an old Swan 51, from Antigua via St Maarten, Horta and Brest to Cherbourg. A total of almost 9100 nautical miles added to logged distance on Swans - adding up to more than 202,500 nautical miles sailed on Swans during the last 51 years.

We love sailing to remote places and this week we visit one of the least visited places in Indonesia. The Aru Islands lie just off the west coast of Papua, in a forgotten corner of the country. A few years ago I read a book called "The Malay Archipelago" by Alfred Wallace. He spent many years during the 1800's exploring remote places in this part of the of the world and discovered many many new species of animal. He spent a good deal of time in the Aru Islands and it fascinated me and I'd always wished to visit. Well, now was our chance! Denn dann bist du in der Lage, an jedem beliebigen Bootsmotor die Wartung durchzuführen und Fehler zu beheben. In jedem Bootsdiesel findet die Kraftstoffverbrennung im Brennraum statt, hier haben wir einen oder mehrere Kolben, die sich auf und ab bewegen und so die Kurbelwelle drehen. Jeder Bootsdiesel benötigt somit Kraftstoff, den er verbrennt. Jeder Bootsdiesel wird außerdem mit Öl geschmiert, das regelmäßig gewechselt werden muss. Auch im Getriebe oder Saildrive gibt es Öl. Desweiteren werden alle Bootsmotoren mit Wasser gekühlt, wobei zweikreisgekühlte Motoren nicht direkt durch Seewasser gekühlt werden, sondern durch ein Kühlmittel, das wiederum durch Seewasser gekühlt wird. Wir besprechen beide Arten der Kühlung in unserem Kurs, und auch exotische Kühlungen wie die Kielkühlung. Nicht alles ist identisch. Ältere Bootsdiesel haben ein mechanisches Einspritzsystem, während neuere Motoren manchmal komplexere Einspritzsysteme haben – vielleicht hast du ja schonmal von Common-Rail-Motoren gehört. Auch hier wieder: Du lernst beide Einspritzsysteme kennen, so bist du nicht nur für den Motor deines jetzigen Bootes ideal vorbereitet, sondern auch, falls du mal ein anderes Boot kaufst. Und natürlich lernst du auch alle Komponenten kennen, die ein Motor haben kann, aber nicht muss, zum Beispiel einen Turbolader oder einen Ladeluftkühler. Wenn das jetzt alles noch etwas kompliziert klingt, keine Sorge: Der Kurs ist geeignet für Anfängerinnen und Anfänger ohne Vorwissen, aber genauso für diejenigen, die schon an Motoren gearbeitet haben. A peaceful but powerful sail along Long Island, Bahamas. In this episode, I leave Clarence Town and sail north along the entire length of Long Island to Calabash Bay — about 45 nautical miles of changing winds, currents, and open water. With steady following winds reaching 25–27 knots, the boat settles into her rhythm. Autopilot locked on waypoints, sails trimmed, generator running, water being made — sometimes it’s best to just let the boat work and enjoy the journey. The weather is shifting. Cooler air from the north, darker skies, and a stronger system coming in a couple of days. Choosing the right anchorage becomes important — protection matters out here.
