"A few things that we do to the boats to get them ready for that 5-year plan or the advance - what they might be doing with that boat down the road... Several good examples would be a washer and dryer... They’re not going to need it short term because they’re going to be mostly coastal but when they take off the island it’s a great feature to have when you’re at a beautiful destination, you don’t want to go in and sit in the laundry mat all day. So that’s one of our most popular. Satellite communications is another popular add on. So we’ll run the coax and the control wires and everything through the boat ahead of time so that when they get to the point where they’re ready to cast off, they can get a good sat communications system or even a sat tv system. Another great option is a dive compressor - we find that our customers, part of their dream is to get their certification, go diving, and just really enjoy what’s below the surface of the water. So, dive compressor pre-wiring and pre-plumbing is another great way to go. We do that on many boats."

Yesterday we ran home to hide from Storm Franklin and 60mph winds. Today we are back and have fitted our first storage drawers. Probably the cheapest storage drawers you can find for your boat refit. Thanks Ikea for the Trofast drawer boxes (£2 for the thin ones, £3.50 for the deeper ones). We fitted drawers under the new galley worktop and will add them to the aft cabin "wardrobes" and the forward head "wardrobes". We are going to try producing short daily vlogs of our progress during this half term. Hamilton Island Race Week was conceived by David Hutchen in 1983, after he had moved to the Whitsundays in Queensland Australia with his yacht “Banjo Paterson” to start a yacht charter business. David was able to convince the then owner and founder of Hamilton Island, Keith Williams, to agree to hosting the event as a way of generating tourism and favourable media attention to the resort. After eight years of having Race Week in April, it was moved to August in 1992 to take advantage of more consistent and attractive weather conditions. The change in timing has seen the event grow significantly over the years becoming Australia's largest offshore yachting regatta.
