Fowl, White, and Hoffman's Cay were our favorite islands in the Berry Islands because of all the great sailing and adventuring within a short distance. Our first adventure was the Blue Hole on Hoffman's Cay. After swimming with the jellyfish in the blue hole, we had our first lesson on how to fly our drone, a Mavic Air II. It was easier to fly than we thought. The next adventure was snorkeling the cuts. We would take the dinghy out to the ocean and then float in with the incoming tide. We always had the dinghy with us just in case we needed to abort the snorkel, but that never happened. We were able to see all of the great fish and animal life milling about in the open pass. It was beautifully clear water...until the storms kicked up the sand. Our last adventure was a trip to White Cay to hike the island and fly the drone. Then, Jeff had a brilliant idea to fly it while following our dinghy. It was a successful launch. Overall, this was a great stay in this area and after 4 days we were ready to continue our journey North! #sailing #sailboat #sailingprojects #fowlcay #whitecay #hoffmanscay #bahamas #berryislands #berrys NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! We start our journey through South Carolina by crossing the state line in the evening, coming into port from the sea just north of Myrtle Beach. We anchor in a dead boat graveyard and manage to make a semi-permanent fix to the steering before starting our next day of ICW cruising. We find ample mall parking at Barefoot Landing and take the opportunity to stretch our legs a bit and fill our bellies with tacos before continuing on down the ICW to anchor in a swamp. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We can't produce quality inspirational content indefinitely without the support of our fans. Catch up with Part One and watch https://youtu.be/roTrtOJbBmU?si=rZgpjc2QW-leN2_c We pick up from where we left off from Episode 29 as we continue our adventure on a new Seawind 1160 named “Shared Adventure”. We left the protection of the break water of derelict concrete ships off of Kiptopeke Beach, Virginia, in Cape Charles, and proceeded to the Atlantic Ocean with barely a breeze and two outboards pushing us. We entered into the Atlantic Ocean’s glass waters and motor sailed for about an hour before returning to the Chesapeake Bay with a Coast Guard escort. We threaded our way north through anchored cargo ships and passed by the abandoned Wolf Trap Lighthouse on our way to Jackson Creek off the Piankatank River where we dropped the hook and celebrated Oktoberfest before turning in under starry skies. We had a lazy start the next morning and sailed north accompanied by winds of a passing front, before reaching Lake Conoy just inside of the Potomac River. We dropped the anchor in Maryland’s most haunted area of the former Civil War prisoner camp at Point Lookout. We woke early the next morning with deteriorating weather from Hurricane Ophelia that had made landfall and veered north. The now Tropical Storm Ophelia stirred up a nor’easterly chop in the bay and nipped at the stern of “Shared Adventure” all the way to Annapolis. The 3-hour tour took 11 hours but we arrived safely and reluctantly unloaded our gear. The construction of our Seawind 1260, “Moments in Time” is progressing well and we will share a status video really soon, stay tuned! Acoustic Version of Little Wings
DANCER has Bill Tripp Jr's distinctive and very attractive style written all over. His name means that sailing performance comes guaranteed; after all, she's a slightly smaller design sister to Huey Long's incredibly successful ONDINE II, also built by master yacht builders Abeking & Rasmussen in aluminium. In recent decades blue water performance cruising has been DANCER's calling, and she does this with comfortable aplomb. Always well maintained and upgraded during 35 years of previous ownership, DANCER’s current owner since 2022 has fastidiously refitted the aluminium sloop to the extent that very few items of systems and equipment date from earlier than 2023. DANCER is well set for many more miles of ocean voyaging and/or family cruising and classic racing. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/755/DANCER%20(ex%20AVENIR)

I just bought this cheap 49ft neglected performance catamaran. An Erik Lerouge design Freydis 49 built by Ocean Cat in 2000. In the coming series I will take you along in fixing it up and preparing it to go sailing. But first a quick flashback, I’m Hugo a 31 year old guy from the Netherlands who left the corporate world behind to become a Sailor. I’ve been living onboard my previous boat, a Jeanneau Sun Legende 41 for the past 6 years. And the last 3.5 years I have been travelling full time and met my girlfriend Maria. We sailed the Mediterranean, Atlantic Europe, I did a 4 week solo Atlantic crossing to Brazil of which you can find a daily vlog on this channel, the carribean and crossed back again to Europe to sell the boat. After sailing on a Performance catamaran of friends I’ve been dreaming of owning one. And that day has finally come! There is lots to do, but let’s start with the story of how I bought the boat. --------------------------------------------- Welcome to Boatlife is best. Here you’ll find interviews with sailors about their boats and their life on board. Ranging from family sailing to solo sailing, from absolute beginners to sailing legends, on big yachts and small boats and from brand new to old school. I hope to see everyone in the upcoming John Kretschmer's Captain's Hour! Here is the info from his email about the zoom meeting. "The last Captain’s Hour of 2025 is this Tuesday, December 30 at 1900 EST. It’s going to be an interesting one as we discuss the many refits, modifications and serious gear choices we’ve made in nearly a quarter century of sailing. I will discuss the good decisions, and the not so good decisions I’ve made, and gear that’s worked well, and some that hasn’t. I will also describe the current refit taking place right now as we prepare for another busy season. When we reached Opua New Zealand last October, we completed our 200th training passage. I finally put numbers to paper, doing my best to figure out how many miles Quetzal and I have sailed together and it’s a bit crazy. My best guess is that it’s somewhere between 220,000 - 240,000 nm, a lot of miles and a hell of a test laboratory. When I think back to our first passage to Bermuda in May 2003 and compare that boat to the one that sailed into Opua, I am reminded of the fable of Theseus' ship, or sometimes called Theseus paradox. Theseus was the mythical kind of Athens who saved the city by slaying the Minotaur and escaped to Delos on a ship. The ship, or at least a version of it, was ceremonially sailed from Athens to Delos once a year but like all boats, needed constant maintenance. After many years, Aristotle was reputed to have asked, “is it still Theseus’ ship if it has all new wood and fittings?” Well, I am here to tell you that Quetzal may have a relaminated hull, a hard dodger, a furling staysail, new engine, and no teak decks but she is the same Quetzal, still soaring across the oceans of the world in style and escorting those of us luckily enough to sail her to a magical place.
