Teil 3: 7.Mai 2024: wir ankerten in der Traumbucht von Rinea und genossen die "Ruhe" Naja, 8 km von Mykonos entfernt ist dieses Karibik-Feeling natürlich ein beliebter Tagesausflug für Party-Gäste aus Mykonos. Als aber alle Abends weg waren, gehörte uns die Bucht allein. Mi 8. Mai: wir blieben bis Nachmittag und genossen die Sonne, bis es zu zog und wir uns auf den Weg nach Poros machten. Dort bekamen wir leider keinen Platz im Hafen und so angerten wir vor seiner Einfahrt. Poros Noussa hat uns super gefallen! Klein gemütlich aber doch auch gepflegt und ein bisserl wie "klein Mykonos". Do 9. Mai: Eigentlich wollten wir die nächsten zwei Meltemi-Tage in Naxos im Hafen verbringen, aber da muss man um 11:30 sein und weiß nicht ob man einen Platz bekommt. Der Hafenmeister, den wir anriefen konnte uns gar nciht sagen, wie hoch die Wahrscheinlichkeit war, einen Platz zu bekommen. Hinzu kam, dass Südwind angesagt war und so segelten wir mit achterlichem Wind wieder Richtung Norden nach Syros Finikas. Wir bekamen um 12:30 noch einen Platz am Kai mit dem Heck Richtung Norden und da verbrachten wir die folgenden Meltemi-Tage bis 12. Mai. Nachts war mal über 40 kn Wind. Wir legten 2 weitere Heckleinen und holten den Außenborder unter Deck. So 12. Mai: nach 3 stürmischen Tagen und Nächten legten wir mit großen Wellen und noch 20 kn Nordwind ab. Eigentlich wollten wir in die nördl. Bucht von Kythnos aber nach einer Stunde war uns das Amwindsegeln zu anstrengend. Wir fielen ab nach Serifos und hatten feines Segeln ... allerdings mit hohen Wellen und so wurde ich nach langem mal wieder Seekrank. It sounds catastrophic, but sometimes you have to see it to believe it, and really become aware of the problem that lies behind the figures. For this reason, Northsails travelled with Sam Potter, a well-known adventurer and environmental activist, to Kamilo Beach, on the southernmost tip of the Big Island of Hawaii to see first-hand one of the most polluted beaches on the planet. 'Sailing well under jib alone!

We finally buy our boat, move aboard and sail away! We spill some champagne, and sail through some storm conditions in 30kts and 5-6 foot waves to move SV Northern Reach down one of Canada’s Great Lakes. It's amateur hour when we fill our boat with smoke - looks like we're in for a steep learning curve with this one!!

After 5 months of no sailing, it was a little nerve racking setting off again. We are now in the North Atlantic Ocean on our way to the Dominican Republic transiting the Bahamas.
