Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles Andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. In this new series of The Rogue Rigger I take you along on our campaign to go to the 5o5 World Championships in Hayling Island, England. The worlds start in July of 2026 so we have just a year and a half to go. Follow Mike and I on our journey to get to the world championships, from boat upgrades, practice days, regattas, debriefs and some shenanigans along the way. In this episode we take you onboard our 505 for this years Spring Dinghy Regatta hosted by the Alameda Community Sailing Center. Normally this event is hosted by the St Francis Yacht Club, this year they canceled the event after 25 plus year run... A few Laser Sailors and 505 sailors decided to save the event and move it to ACSC. Some how I ended up being the regatta chair. This year we are kept the event small only inviting the 505's and ILCA's. Next year we will add more fleets if there is interest. This is time of year can be tricky with the weather and it was looking like we might get blown out with a big storm. Fortunately the weather held out for the first day where we were pleasantly surprised to get a warm 65 degree sunny day with 5-10 knots of breeze. Unfortunately the wind ended up dying in the second race. On day two we were treated to a cold 50 degree day with breeze ranging from 12-34knots out of the south. Launching and retrieving our boats was super challenging in these conditions. The fleet worked together to get everyone on and off the water safely. The amazing race committee managed to get in three races in the constantly changing conditions. Overall it was a great event and I look forward to next years event!

Alicante, première étape de la Volvo Ocean Race 2017-2018. Dongfeng Race Team, skippé par le français Charles Caudrelier s’est rapidement positionné en tête ce dimanche, après une bataille serrée, avec les bateaux de MAPFRE et Team Brunel. Les trois 65 pieds étaient au touche à touche, à quelques mètres d’écart les uns des autres, mais Caudrelier bénéficiant de la priorité a poussé ses adversaires à la faute. Les conditions n’auraient pas pu être meilleures pour ce grand départ, aujourd’hui, avec 15 à 20 noeuds de vent d’Est, un ciel bleu et des dizaines de milliers de spectateurs ! La flotte des 7 Volvo Ocean 65, composée des meilleurs marins de la planète a franchi la ligne de départ à 14:00 heure locale, s’élançant ainsi sur cette première étape de 1450 milles nautiques jusqu’à Lisbonne. Les centaines de bateaux spectateurs rassemblés dans la baie formait un ‘stade’ dans lequel se sont affrontés les 7 équipages, enroulant quelques bouées avant de mettre le cap au Sud, vers Gibraltar, qu’ils devraient atteindre demain midi. Depuis 1973, la Volvo Ocean Race est une épreuve ultime et une aventure humaine sans égal. Der zweite Teil unserer Rundreise führt uns über Popayan in die Kaffeeregion Kolumbiens. Wir, Joachim und Sabine, die Crew der Atanga, wir sind am 01. Juni 2014 in Hamburg gestartet. 2015: Kanarischen Inseln 2016: Kapverdische Inseln, im Februar 2016 unsere Atlantik-Überquerung nach Französisch Guyana. Dann kleine Antillen und noch einmal die Guyanas und Suriname mit der Nereid’s Rally. 2017: ABC-Inseln (nur BC), Mexiko und Belize. In Mexiko haben wir eine dreiwöchige Rundreise im Landesinneren unternommen. Im Anschluss kamen Providencia und Kolumbien Festland (ebenfalls mit einer dreiwöchigen Rundreise) und die San Blas Inseln in Panama. 2018: Wir wurden im Januar in Panama vom Blitz getroffen. Die Reparatur dauerte drei Monate. Nach der Passage durch den Panama Kanal haben wir den Rest des Jahres in Ecuador verbracht und fünf Wochen das Landesinnere erkundet. 2019: Osterinsel, Gambier, Tuamotu und Gesellschaftsinseln. 2020: Die Corona-Krise hat uns in Gambier (Franz. Polynesien) erwischt. Wir werden sehen, wohin der Wind uns treibt und wie weit wir kommen.

I tell everyone that as we approached Tahiti anchorage naked Polynesian girls swam out to us wearing a flower behind their ears and and welcoming smile. The truth is I chatted to air traffic control tower on VHF to get permission to pass the end of the runway so our mast did not endanger the jet passenger planes arriving and departing. Tahiti is very french with dual carriageways, supermarkets and wonderful beaches. The night market restaurants are inexpensive and fun as is the covered main market. I made some good friends there who lent me a car to explore in and have had a wonderful time in this city. Probably the place to have a second home in. Bit of a culture shock after The Marquesas and Tuamotu islands.. All is not lost as after the tourist flesh pots of Bora Bora the wonderful Cook Islands await with real uninhabited islands as well as Tonga and Fiji.
