This 65ft Hoek Classic, 'Weatherly', is a breathtaking sailing yacht, meticulously and comprehensively refitted to the highest standards. Acquired by her current owner in 2021, she was entrusted to KM Yachtbuilders in the Netherlands for a transformative 12-month refit. The result is, in essence, a brand-new yacht built within a classic hull. Almost every element, apart from the hull and decks, has been renewed with state-of-the-art systems, electronics, and technology, while the interior has undergone a complete refurbishment. 'Weatherly' may have a classic appearance with her West Epoxy hull; her performance is anything but traditional. With a deep draught and a displacement of only eighteen tons, Weatherly delivers remarkable speed under sail. She is sloop rigged with carbon spars, North Sails sails, Harken deck gear, and Navtec hydraulic rig controls. She is furthermore fitted out with a 110hp Yanmar diesel, 10hp bow thruster, feathering propeller, high-output alternator, hydrogenator, chargers, inverters, a C-Zone digital switching and monitoring system, and 15kW of Lithium batteries. Further to that, a full Garmin navigation suite, life raft, water maker, teak passerelle, and more. Also worth mentioning are the fuel tanks that can hold nearly 1000 Liter. The interior of this 65ft Hoek is every bit as striking as her exterior. A raised pilothouse offers 360° views with comfortable seating to port and starboard. Just a few steps below, the elegant main salon welcomes you with a generous dining area and is fitted out with a Webasto heating system and a Dometic air conditioning system for all-season comfort. To starboard, the galley features an induction hob, oven, and twin refrigerators. To port, the navigation station puts every display and control within easy reach. Forward, the owner’s cabin offers a spacious double berth, sofa, and ample storage. Two additional berths amidships provide further accommodation. After a frantic untangling, we head to Tahiti to repair our leaking watermaker. The repair reveals a bigger problem, requiring a major part to be shipped from the U.S. Once the part finally arrives, we complete the repair and reinstall the watermaker, hopeful for no more leaks. But a new and major issue arises during the reinstallation, pushing our frustration to an all-time high and making us question our sailing life. The final video of our Kimberley adventure. We leave Koolama Bay to catch the last of the flood tide before battling the tide and anchoring behind Eric Island short of the Berkeley River. In the morning we sail on to the Berkeley a cross the sand bar and motor upstream to Casuarina falls. We find superb swimming holes and aboriginal rock art above the falls. Heading further upstream we head for the rock bar at the end of the navigable water visiting the amphitheater and the perennial falls along the way. On our final day we head downstream to shower at Casuarina falls once more before exploring Pauls Creek and then reading Neringa for the 3 day 2 night crossing of Bonaparte Gulf the next day. We depart at 2am the following day to cross the bar at high tide and make the most of the ebb for the first 6 hours. Grib files show promising conditions for the first 2 days but a worrying strengthening of the winds rounding into Darwin. The crossing goes to plan despite some of the roughest seas on the last day rounding the Cox Peninsular into Darwin. After retrieving the car and trailer from Derby we load Neringa after 1372 nautical miles on the water in readiness for the 5000 km road trip home.

This expedition has been created to take you further offshore for the chance of encountering some of the ocean's most spectacular creatures. We will be based in La Ventana, a small town on the Gulf of California, facing the majestic Isla Cerralvo. We will be focusing on searching for the epic Mobula Munkiana aggregations. These amazing animals come together for mating and feeding before migrating out of the Sea of Cortez into the Pacific Ocean. The abundance of food in this area is one of the primary reasons for the abundance of life, and as usual, where there is food, there are predators. We will often travel up to 40 miles offshore or up and down the coast to hopefully encounter incredible animals.
