In this stage of the build, a major milestone is reached as all the temporary structural supports and moulds are released. With the main beams now in place and local stiffening completed where needed, the wet deck and hulls have been bonded together as a strong, solid platform. It’s the first moment where she really starts to look like a boat as you move around her. Looking down from above, the interior layout is beginning to reveal itself too. At this point it can feel a little untidy, an unavoidable and familiar phase in the build process, but the structure is doing exactly what it should, the form is emerging, and everything released just as it should. The yard is packed this December, and while we’re well protected from the recent run of strong gales, the relentless West Country rain has taken its toll. With flooding across the region, the ground is decidedly soggy, as you’ll see in the background. Still, progress continues, and we’re very much looking ahead to the next phases, when everything starts to come together for real.

Das war dann auch schon die Segelsaison 2024. Für die ursprüngliche Wettervorhersage sind wir bei der letzten Wettfahrt der Mittwochsregatta glimpflich davon gekommen. Der Regen hörte zum Start auf und sogar die Sonne ließ sich kurz blicken. Beim anschließenden Grillen mit Siegerehrung konnte Maiko den Gesamtsieg feiern. SturmStina und Monk folgten auf den Plätzen - beide Yachten erreichten auch in der letzten Wettfahrt als erste das Ziel - nur in umgekehrter Reihenfolge. Somit der 2. Tagessieg der Saison für Monk, das dürfte die Steuermanns Diskussion über den Winter befeuern. Aber Konkurrenz belebt ja bekanntlich das Segel-Geschäft. Danke an die Veranstalter und wir sehen uns im kommenden Jahr wieder auf der Ostsee.

Day -1 Daily Highlight | Youth Sailing World Championships – Vilamoura Day -1 in Vilamoura was all about setting the scene for an incredible week ahead. The Youth Sailing World Championships officially kicked off with a vibrant opening ceremony, featuring a parade of nations as 424 sailors and 166 coaches marched country by country, followed by group photos on stage, a dance performance, and a flash mob that brought the night to life. Earlier in the day, we spent time at Vilamoura Marina, visiting Casa Portugal, the VIP lounge, and had the chance to chat with David Graham, CEO of World Sailing, and World Sailing President Quanhai Li about the championship and what it means for the future of youth sailing. Today is a training day, with the first day of racing starting on the 15th.
