Penemu and Fam islands are on the Western edge of the Raja Ampat (4 Kings) area in Eastern Indonesia. Penemu's "lagoon", with its many small karst islets reminds us of a mini Waiag, (the most photographed area of Raja Ampat) which has many more large karst islands. Towering tortured rock formations rise to the skies, while their reflections glow out of the lagoon waters back-dropped by every hue of blue and green. We climbed to a ridge that gave us a great panoramic view of the lagoon, and we dived on colorful Galaxy Reef just in front of the entrance to the lagoon. At Fam island, we found a local village, Saupapir, that had a nice pier and cleanly swept paths in the village, and flowers and gardens growing out of bare-earth yards. The people probably had never been visited by "yachties" before. We were quite an attraction! Going back to the dock, we were really lucky to see a pair of bright Red Cockatoos. We thank Chris Hamilton from Papua Paradise dive resort for giving us the coordinates of Galaxy Reef, and the Conservation folks for letting us use their mooring at Penemu. Filmed in November 2012.

While in Vang Vieng, Laos we mountain biked, cave explored, and swam at the Blue-ish Lagoon, but can't forget our lazy 3 hour tubing down the Nam Song River! We floated past small villages and stunning scenery. Some spots were deep and slow flowing and others shallow and quick, so shallow in spots you had to lift your butt so you didn't hit the bottom! We ended our float in a shallow spot right in front of our guest house. Fun.

Only a few places left in Asia practice the age old ritual of giving early morning (6am) alms to the monks. This is the only food they receive for the day. We were lucky enough to be a part of this in Luang Prabang, Laos A very unique and ancient experience in Asia and a unique Cultural experience for our son Cole. He is learning so much through travel.

There is a special agreement between Communist Laos and Thailand for travel. It is called the Friendship Bridge and it is a unique connection between the two Countries and also how we travelled back to Thailand from Laos. It was a great educational addition to Cole's home schooled travels of South East Asia and he remembers it well.
