À 2 600 milles de la ligne d’arrivée à Ouessant et à l’orée de son 43ème jour de mer, Spindrift 2 qui n’affiche désormais plus que 266 milles de retard (dont une centaine hier soir) n’a pour autant plus l’opportunité d’améliorer le record du Trophée Jules Verne, établi depuis 2012 (45j 13h 42’ 53’’). En effet, bien que l’équipage n’ait rien lâché et vu sa ténacité récompensée par plus de 700 milles rattrapés en trois jours, la météo a tranché : entre un anticyclone des Açores campé en travers de la route et de violentes tempêtes à suivre avec une mer impraticable, les conditions qui règnent sur l’Atlantique sont particulièrement défavorables pour conclure dans les temps ce tour du monde. Le père Noël est passé aussi à bord de Spindrift 2 ! Vingt degrés dans l’air, dix-neuf dans l’eau, les marins ont profité d'un joyeux réveillon au large de l’Argentine et l’Uruguay ! Pour l’occasion, Xavier Revil a enfilé son plus beau costume, distribuant quelques cadeaux et gourmandises : saucisson, chocolat, petits mots des proches et dessins des enfants, chacun a été gâté et le moral de l'équipage est au plus haut. Et du moral, il en faudra car le maxi-trimaran a perdu en puissance depuis ce matin et traverse un anticyclone en approche du Brésil, à une vitesse moyenne autour des 12 nœuds.
