The boat is constructed of exterior quality plywood, sealed with epooxy and sheathed in glass fibre and epoxy. One of the great beauties of these boats is that the ballast keel is fitted towards the end of the build, enabling the boat to be kept lower in the shed for most of the construction time. Hello Seaplorers of Vela Nautica In this episode we solved the "engine problem" that we encountered, when leaving, ria formosa / Portugal in the last episode (SAILING IN THE EYE OF STORM ) . The marine growth that settled on our propeller slowed down the engine, so the rpm did not go over 1400 rpm, caused by the water turbulences of the propeller. The diesel engine got an overload turning the prop. Come and follow us under water to inspect Vela Nautica´s underwater ship and the marine life around Gibraltar Rock in the anchorage. As you saw us considering the possible cause for this "engine problem" in the last episode, we have been right supecting the marine growth in ria formosa to be responsible. We encountered this problem before in Santa Marta / Colombia even worst. The rest of the underwatership was freshly painted when Vela Nautica had her last stay on the hard and showed a soft, easy to wipe off, growth of algae´s after 4 months in the water. The Maverick 440 is designed and built for the private owner who wishes to live aboard and sail around the world. It is a go anywhere, stay as long as you want yacht. Every aspect of the interior, systems and equipment can be specified to the owners exact requirements. The Maverick 440 is also considered the ideal sailing craft for the ICW, Inter-Coastal Waterway, as it is available with an ICW friendly rig of less than 62 ft above the waterline. It also has the shallowest draft of any fixed keel catamaran of it's class of just over 3ft and has the ability to be beached / dry out at low tide. The Maverick 440 has the highest quality equipment and finishes, it is a PVC foam core yacht and uses real wood vaneer on the interior set on marine grade honeycomb. For extra strength the bulk heads are marine ply. The Maverick USP's include - 1'000 liters / 262 gallons of fresh water storage - 800 liters / 212 gallons of diesel - 12+ opening hatches for ventilation - 12 + opening port lights for ventilation - ability to beach & dry out - ICW friendly rig available - excellent sailing charateristics in all conditions; confident in a storm and easy ot sail in light wind too This Maverick 440 is privately owned and sailed by the owners from Cape Town, South Africa across the Atlantic through the Caribbean to be presented at the Annapolis Sailboat Show October 2019. The Maverick 440 Lani was launched in June 2018 in Cape Town, South Africa and is hull #019 of the production series. The Maverick is produced on female founds and everything of the interior is hand made according to the owners desires. All decor and finishes are specified by the owner. The owner can choose any kind of real wood work vanneer or other composite finish for the interior, the material or leather used for the seating, the size and type of helm seat used being double or signal, the colour of corian counter tops with 100 types to choose from, the instruments pack BNG, Garmin, Raymarine or other, the engines from Volvo, Yanmar or hybrid.
